Jetstar Pricebeat Update. No More Live Chat

Just an update for you keen Jetstar Pricebeaters…

Had to do a pricebeat last week, and again today.

They have changed the system so that after filling out the form, instead of being connected to a live Chat person, you now receive a message to say they will get back to you via email.

Needless to say, this does not happen quickly! I waited over 2 hours last week, and coming up to 1.5 hours so far today.

I would say this spells the end to pricebeating those $9 Tiger fares… they will be long gone by the time Jetstar gets around to looking at your enquiry…

Just a heads up so no one makes the wrong decision ;)

I would've thought the $9 fares disappear too quick for the online chat as well…

    • not if you were quick ;)

Even if you're quick, it felt like the chat guys fumbled around trying to check the price, etc …

Jetstar: Hey how are you today?

          1s second later

          Me: Good thanks.

          3 minutes later

          Jetstar: That's great to hear.

          Every. Time.

@peterpeterpumpkin: One time i even said to the chat agent "please reply faster"

He had no problem quickly replying "please be patient!". Useless.

This totally sucks. Thanks for the update though.

  • Can't you call them?

    • No, I tried calling and was told that price beat guarantee fares MUST be booked online. :(

      • Weird, it always worked when I called.

        1. We commit to provide the lowest fares with our 'Price Beat Guarantee'*

At Jetstar, we're committed to providing you with great, low fares - all day everyday. That's why, if you find a published internet airfare on another airline that is lower than the lowest available Jetstar fare on the same route at a comparable time on Jetstar.com, call us to book with Jetstar and we will beat the other airline's fare by 10%.

        *Price Beat Guarantee full conditions

How recently did you try calling them? I called them on Monday for the price beat guarantee, and was directed to the website. The operator said they absolutely cannot process any price beat guarantee fares over the phone.

          @lizzle: Ages ago… Sep 2016.

  • It's super annoying that you can't do it through the chat anymore. Luckily I tried to price beat Tiger and got a response within 10 minutes. Not sure if any of my gazillion calls to Jetstar had anything to do with the response rate though! I was also assured over the phone that the moment you put through the request, it "freezes" whatever fares are available on the relevant websites so that when someone checks them out, they'll see whatever fares you're seeing on your computer. Sounds like a load of bs. I probably will not bother trying to pricebeat any flights through Jetstar anymore. :(

  • They've obviously realised that those $9 deals are not sustainable and some smart person in the Jetstar office has come up with this as a solution!

  • One of the advantages of the price beat was that you didn't have to pay the booking fee so you saved much more than 10%.

For instance if Tiger had flights for $40 each way, it was worth doing the Price beat because Jetstar would charge $36 each way, whereas Tiger would actually charge $47 each way including the booking fee. Now the airlines are not allowed to do this and Tiger would only charge probably $1 credit card fee. I would be more inclined just to book with Tiger.

Yeah I can't be bothered anymore unless the flight isn't that important to begin with.

I do like flying home with Jetstar at 7 pm just in case they get one of their many mechanical error cancellations so I score a $150 hotel for the night (instead of my usual budget dorm).

  • I waited ten hours last week, and then got rejected, no explanation given. The Tiger flight I was trying to price beat was still available, so I just went and booked that instead.

  • They might as well abolish this price guarantee jibarish

  • It's good for international flights especially against Scoot to Singapore where fares don't sell out as fast.

Tiger/Jetstar Domestic A320 is much the same. Just like Ryanair/EasyJet. Same thing different cover.

  • I used it a few weeks ago and the email only took a few minutes…much faster than chit chat…
