Using a Promo Code Not for You

Hey everyone,

I've found this promo code https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/264049 for Emirates, it still works and it takes about 10% off my ticket.

The problem is that it's for AMA members. Does Emirates check or care how the tickets are bought?

I'm 99.99% sure that they dont check. I once used a Melbourne Symphony Orchestra Emirates 10% off code to book return flights to Europe, and got bumped from economy to business when connecting in Dubai.

Unless the emirates website presents you with a list of T&C for the promo code, before selling you the ticket, I don't think they can enforce the T&C after sale (under ACL).

For all they know the code was re-tweeted a zillion times without the T&C and you just found it on google (or with a honey chrome plugin). Ignorance is a valid defence in this case.

I booked Emirates flights last year, and I saw that AMA code but I was worried they would check, so after some more research I found that the Entertainment Book gets you the same discounts. So I called up Entertainment Booked, order a e-book over the phone, very nice lady confirmed which charity I want to support, took credit card payment, gave me the log in details, and I booked by Emirates tickets 30 minutes later.

Spent $70 (?), supported QLD Guide Dogs and immediately saved about $200. So winner.

And they never checked my subscription at the gates, FYI.

I've contacted the Coupon Code Fraud Department with the Australian Federal Police. don't even try running. just pack a bag because you are going away for a long, long, long time.

Postcards cost money, how very un-Ozbargain of you. Facebook messages and posts are free.

  • Wow anyone has a code for Singapore airlines?
