    it's fine.

soniq have 55" smart tv for that price link
kogan were selling dumb 55" for $499 6 weeks ago

personally I'd skip on buying a smart tv and go for a dumb tv.
a smart tv means you are tied to the manufacturer providing software updates.
where as with a dumb tv you can just buy a android box for $50 and then after a few years if it is underperforming then buying something a lot better/modern for the same amount. whilst someone who bought a smart tv is still using the old OS.

like the soniq reads ok spec wise. but the OS android 4.4!!! you can buy $50 android boxes with 7 and 2gb ram.

  • No dumb 4k TVs around AFAIK.

Perhaps an older Aldi model, but that's got too many software bugs to be called awarded the lofty title of dumb TV.

JVCs aren't as bad as the no-name brands, they probably demand higher quality from the manufacturers than most, so if you luck out it might be as good as a Samsung or a Sony. Neither of which are much chop as they don't maintain the Operating Systems, bake in vulnerabilities, provide insecure, buggy and incomplete features and then abandon the whole filthy stack in favour of spending all their development team's efforts to repeat the same mistakes in different ways on the new models.

Seems cheap… very. Perhaps post it as a Deal?

  • Have a look at it in person if possible.
I know back in 2014 I wanted to get a 4K TV… but they were either too expensive, and all the affordable ones performed quite badly.
I ended up with a good 1080p LG TV instead, and don't regret it one bit.
It's much better quality than the ones I saw.

It reminds me when I got a Digital Camera from China back in 2004.
It was something like 16MP, so on paper, it looked like it was much better than the name-brand point 'n shoot cameras with 8MP shots. But in person, that Chinese camera was horrendous.
I realised its not so much about how many pixels you have, but rather how good those pixels really are. The same concept applies to TVs, the quality of the panel is much more important than a sloppy resolution bump.

  • does anyone know if this tv has hdcp 2.2?

  • Just did a rough site wide and internet wide search.. yes kinda for the moment.. if you spot something closer to $499 jump on it.
