When Will Price Drop for iPhone 7?

Hi all, I have been using iPhone 5s for more than 2 years now. Although I don't mind continue using it, I do envy the newer phones with much better functionalities. I'm always 2-3 generations behind just because I want a cheaper price. I have now decided to upgrade to iPhone 7 128gb. So the question is, how long after the release of the rumored iPhone 8 that I can expect the price for iPhone 7 to drop? I don't want to wait >6 months.
I'm currently on $30 Telstra prepaid plan, so the next step is to find a better deal (shocked after reading posts discussing various deals and found out how much I've been paying for bad-value-for-money). I'm a light user, and with me staying home on maternity leave and using wifi almost all day, I'm considering going for lighter plan.
Thanks

    Yes.

iPhone's don't drop in price; even the 6S still has a relatively high retail price despite being on the verge of being superseded for the second time.

If you want a cheap phone, you don't get an iPhone (or, at least, one that isn't 3+ generations old). Apple controls pricing strictly which even has the knock on effect of maintaining resale value of used handsets.

    When Iphone 8 comes out

The buy price for distributors will drop the same day as the new phone is announced. It'll take a while for their stock at the current price to run out though, especially with the new iPhone now in market and demand on the old one reducing. Once the higher-priced stock is cleared, retailers will pass on the reduced price. If the USD>AUD exchange rate remains stable there should be roughly $200 reduction in the RRP.

If you're looking to buy from an Apple Store direct, the price reduction should be immediate on the new phone's launch day - I'd advise against trying to get into an Apple store on launch day though… Note that Apple usually deletes a few lines from the old range when launching a new one - last year they deleted the 64 and 128GB models from the 6s range, I would expect at least the 256GB gets deleted this year. They'll likely remove a few colours as well. It's likely that these lines will be pulled from sale at Apple Stores to make way for the new range, remaining in 3rd party retailers until sold through.

I'd give it at least two months after the new one is released if you're buying from a 3rd party retailer or telco - probably mid November, maybe a little earlier.

    It's an Apple product, so…

    Never.

Have you considered moving away from Apple?

There's some very good mid-range Android handsets that can be had for not much money.

Hell, you could get a near flagship Android device for what they're asking for a 2 year old iPhone.

Not much until forced iOS no !longer up to day

  • Thanks guys. So it is a toss between iOS and Android. I'm so invested in Apple products though. I'd like to be on the same platform as mum and dad, as they are not very technology literate. mmh, need to think.

Get Pixel 2 or Samsung Note 8 at the end of the year. You'll never go back to iOS.

    Like what?

    • lame as it sounds, better camera to take photos of my baby. Will have a look at P2 or S8.

      • Get an SLR camera for that. Your baby will appreciate the much better photos when she's grown.

Samsung have always had the better camera anyway.

I think the best camera is the one at hand when the photo opportunity arises. Unless you carry a SLR camera with you everywhere, you will grab these moments with your phone.

So buy the phone with the best camera you are willing to spend on.

That is a serious question man! I have been wanting to try a IPhone for quite a while, but the price is alway toooo high! Even for old model! In Uk an IPhone5 (2yrs ago) brand new was over £200…which is the price i paid for my wife's Sonty Z3 mini with 3 times better specs and just relased…I do not think it is really worth the money!

The days of iPhones being affordable is over. IMO, it ended years ago. I used to be able to get the iPhone 4 for $40 plan with $0 device fee just after the launch of the 4s. Now, Apple/carriers don't have that level of deal (excluding the SE).

Either get the SE or give up. Im a huge ios fan but I've been using android phones for 3 years now cos I couldnt afford one.

Why do you want an IPhone 7?Husband has 6 plus and I just bought a second hand iPhone 6. I am a big android fan, however all my family has iPhones and work has given me a MacBook, hence when my android phone needed upgrading I decided to buy second hand iPhone 6. Both me and husband have 128gb and it's so good for storing photos and music. Despite hating apple for exploiting people, I must admit the iOS is so easy to use. I still have an android tablet and a spare phone to use up my Telstra freedom plus credit (Netflix and good play music)

Only because by the time iPhone 8 comes out, I'd only be 1generation behind.

Fair enough good hunting then. Who knows we might win the lottery and get an iPhone 8 :)

Don't expect price drop on Apple product unless you want >2 generations behind, even Iphone 6 still retail at ~$450 which is about the same price with LG G6 which comes out this year.
