Where to Get Outdoor/Hiking/Winter Clothing?

Need some warm winter clothing for some Overseas travel most places will be around 5 degree Celsius. Not hung up on brands just want good quality affordable gear.

I saw brands such as Kathmandu, North Face, ice breaker, Patagonia but not sure which is the better buy.

Can anyone recommend some retailers ? Happy to buy overseas as well.

    Go for layers.

Also perhaps you could buy stuff for your trip in the places you're going to. Especially if you're going to the US where clothing is much cheaper than here.

Disposal stores can have some good stuff.

Kathmandu is ridiculously overpriced for what it is.

The others tend to be pricey. Also pricey but good is Macpac. Mountain Designs is worth checking out.

    • I'm going to Japan first, but I'm not sure where snouts over there to purchase let alone pricing.

Are there any American retailers who ship here ?

      • Amazon does…

Patagonia and icebreaker are Tier 1

North face is tier 2, almost as good, cheaper and more mass market, but still excellent

Kathmandu/Columbia are tier 3, branded of varying quality.

at 5 degrees, any layering will keep you warm.

Buy a berghaus spectrum polartec zip fleece (or any equivalent), a lightweight windproof jacket, and you'll be fine at 5 degrees! Add some merino base layers if you feel the cold badly, and you're set! Sub zero, buy a down jacket and thicker socks!

    • Columbia make some top tier, very pricey gear as well as some cheaper stuff. Definitely not in the same category as Kathmandu.

  • Decathlon just launched in Australia.

  • Why not check out your local op shops. The one near us has new items from well known stores especially now when stock is being changed over.I frequently shop in op shops for travel clothing.
