Bird Scarer for Balcony Location

Hi OzBargainers, Wondering if anyone can give me some ideas on how to scare birds off my balcony rails, as I'm sick of cleaning up their droppings on the balcony tiles! I have noticed some other apartment type buildings have a Hawk bird replica, fixed to their balcony rails! Does this work?

Picture of Shorton or Penny Wong should do the trick. Free on the internet.

Tried that, didnt work, in fact, they just increased their deposits !!

    • In that case I got nothing.

Oh wait, we used to use old goon bags tied to a stake in the garden, you need to blow them up first but they seem to work s a treat. Maybe tie a couple to the balcony railing?

  • Firm string with pegs tied every foot or so running a few inches above the handrail shoud stop them from landing.

    try here
My neighbour uses the owl on his roof with limited success. I use the plastic spikes secured with cable ties.

  • A scarecrow?

That only works with crows. You need a scarebird.

What kind of birds are they, OP?

      • Dickybird

      • The worst mess caused by Currawongs, Butcher Birds & Miner Birds.
The Currawongs eat some purple coloured berries & cause a bad stain!

        • ? Mulberry tree in your area.

  • Seen quite a few people using fake snakes to scare them off. They reckon they work good.

  • A different situation but to stop pugeons from nesting in our carport I tied pieces of aluminium foil ( scruched it to big bow shaped pieces of al foil) to strings and hung them up where the pigeons were coming to land/nest build. Similar to the goon bag suggestion.

    • flying pugs, that would be so cute, but they would create on hell of a mess.

    imo, bird replicas are useless.

if your balcony isn't too large, a bird net draped from the roof will do the trick.

or you could try some old cds dangling on string from the roof

  • Owl.

    What floor are you on?

Life must be a breeze for birds- go anywhere- crap anywhere. But then there is the live-on-grubs, other-birds-out-to-eat-you part of it. Still, all in all …

Tie a few CDs to string and hang them off the ceiling.

What we did was run fishing line approximately 3 inches above the railing and no more birds landing on the railing this works

  • have you asked your neighbours if the hawk works? or can you see that it works? might be a good place to start

    Yeah…

I have a 2 statues. (1 is a Eagle, the other a Hawk), both are in my patio.
We used to have birds flying through, some would perch in the rafters and crap over everything…

    Not any-more.
