Landscaping a 100m2 Backyard

I'm looking at designing a garden (under 100m2) for my property (which is in a 100m Bushfire buffer zone), and I have the feeling that it might have a BAL of 12.5 or 19.

In terms of the backyard, we would like to have the following:

  • Tandori Oven or Pizza Oven
  • Tables & Chairs
  • Possibly a shed or a backyard pod (for storage, home office, playroom, etc) – I don't know if council approval is required
  • I like the idea of a Greenhouse for growing food organically (provided it isn't time intensive & is cheaper than buying organic fruit, veg and herbs)

and I want to achieve the following;

1) Low Maintenance (water, pruning, etc)
2) Repellent to Termites, Snakes, Vermin
3) Bushfire Resistant Species of plant (high moisture content in leaves, low oil level in leaves, high levels of salt, larger & thicker leaves with smooth edges)
4) Shallow Roots (don't want plumbing problems & yard not big enough for trees)
5) Frost Tolerant (as it will be about 14km straightline distance from the Blue Mountains in Western Sydney)
6) Reduces quantity of weeds
7) Produces flowers, foliage and foods (herbs, fruits, vegetables, nuts)
8) Tolerates Greywater
9) Non-invasive species

Looking for advice regarding plants and landscaping (planning on doing DIY [I have done so before])

As for seeing a landscaper, I don't have the budget to pay for their services and some of my family are quite keen gardeners.

I'm primarily looking for free advice (whether that be gardening forums, websites, etc).

  • This is almost exactly what i am looking for, except i have a smaller backyard…
I have started looking at fiverr for plans etc, but its hard to find any designers that are from Australia…

And i dont have to worry about frost…

let me know if you find anything…

So what is your actual question? Do you want to find a designer? Or do you want plant and shed recommendations?

    concrete, just concrete

  • You need to see a landscaper and he will design what you want.

  • I think your local plant nursery can help with most of the plant and garden questions.

Then maybe find a landscaper or landscape architect to help do the design?
