QANTAS Lounge Pass in LAX with 4 hour layover

Hi All,

I have a couple of Qantas lounge passes from my ANZ card.

I will be Flying Qantas from Sydney to Las Vegas this Thursday. I have a stop over in LAX for 4 hours which doesn't give me much time to leave the airport and do anything, but too long to want to just sit and do nothing at the airport.

I just wanted to know if anyone has been able to or knows if you can use the passes at the Qantas International lounge at LAX given that I will be going on a QF booked and coded flight (albeit operated by American Airlines)? or even to use at the domestic Admirals Lounge at LAX?

A shower would be great after the flight to LAX! lol

Any help would be great, even if it is a suggestion of what to do at LAX for such a short/long time.

Thank you in advance!

I would be surprised if you can access the lounge given you are an international arrival transferring to a domestic flight. I have not flown into LAX for a few years but can you even physically access the lounge if you want arriving into LAX, or can you only access it if you are departing?

    • yeah I didn't even think about that.. thanks!

For only 4 hours, I would not bother. By the time you get through LAX customs (notoriously slow), and transfer to your domestic flight, you will probably only have 2 hours to burn.

        • Depends on time of day, if its the 6am arrival then you can make it to the curb in under half an hour.

You will need to pass immigration at LAX, collect luggage recheck in for your onward connection to LAS. Im pretty sure you cant even use the pass

    • ah bummer, that makes sense, how about using it at the admirals lounge Domestic (American Airlines)?

Admirals Lounge domestic is a sure no.
I think the Business Lounge in LAX is not operated by Qantas (operated jointly by OneWorld) so passes aren't accepted there too.

        • Handy to know!

    • collect luggage recheck in for your onward connection to LAS

This is pretty streamlined from what I remember - just removing from one belt and putting it on to another x-ray belt (assuming bags are tagged to LAS). No need to go to the check-in counter.

  • I have not looked at it for a number of years, but you used to be able to buy a month pass to the AA lounge for like US$99 I think? And there was maybe some other options like a one-off pass or similar.

    • AA lounge is a waste of space. You get like 1 free drink and no food.

Most terminals have free wifi and food is cheap enough (not like Sydney Airport).

      • Agreed. Better off going to an airport bar.

I was at LAX last October departing on a Qantas flight. I bought a lounge pass from Ozbargains classifieds, however it was not valid at LAX . I think the conditions are stated on the reverse.

You can use the Qantas international lounge for an onward domestic AA flight (you just re-enter TBIT) - the showers are great - and then just use the newish connector bridge to T4 after using the lounge so no more security - I do this all the time even on a 2.5 hour connection.

BUT the passes definitely won't work - you need Qantas Gold status (or above) or Qantas Club membership. See: https://www.ausbt.com.au/where-can-you-use-qantas-club-loung…

I'd still recommend you re-enter TBiT even if you're not using the lounge as the security lines are much shorter earlier in the mornings and the connector bridge makes going into T4 a breeze.

You won't be able to use the AA club either - not that you'd want to - it's pretty terrible.

  • 4 hours at LAX? Bro grab an uber or a taxi and go get yourself a double double, animal style from In N Out, it's like 5 mins from the airport.

    • No need for transport, it’s a short walk, cut through the car park

    • If you take a Uber you’d be better off going to shake shack at el segundo which is much better than in n out IMO

      • thanks for the response guys, been and gone since. We ended up arriving late from Sydney and customs took a while. We hung out and had pizza and beer at 6am for a little. time flew.

when we arrived el Segundo was closed until our flight flew out, so there was no chance of that unfortunately. i wanted some of the Stone Cold IPA haha

  • To use the passes, you should click the email that Quantas sends 3-4 business days after you redeem them from ANZ, and digitally attach the lounge pass to your boarding pass (you can use this within 12 months from redemption). Maybe, a good test would be to see if you can see the onward flight from LAX on that list.

I flew to Singapore two weeks ago on Qantas. I could attach the ANZ lounge pass into the SYD-SIN flight, but not to the SIN-SYD flight, though there's a Qantas lounge at Changi airport.

Luckily I have Priority-pass so didn't bother much.

  • We have the same ANZ lounge passes- wasn't able to use them at LAX unfortunately
