Oral-B 7000 Black Electric Toothbrush Incl. 3 Brush Head Refills & Travel Case $139 (RRP $329) 62% OFF @ Shaver Shop

790

My Oral-B 5000 triumph died last night. Was v distressing but it's time to move on. Found the Oral-B 7000 Black Electric Toothbrush incl. 3 Brush Head Refills & Travel Case at shaver shop.

They claim 54% off but I'm not sure who would spend $329 on a toothbrush. Anyway, was tossing up giving the xiaomi brush a go but not sure if jeapordising teeth is a good idea (no disrespect mr xiaomi).

Alternatively, Billy guyetts has $199 for the dual handle 5000 model which is arguably a better price. U just put one away until the other dies (RIP buddy). The billy guyatts one is still 'smart' but it doesn't have Bluetooth, not sure why you'd want that in a tooth brush, you'd be much better off with whitetooth, but I'll leave that to Rob the dentist and the other boffins at oral b to figure out.

Outstanding Update 1 by some bloke in the comments - cheaper on eBay with this code C5OZ if u cool with not brushing your teeth while u wait for toothbrush to get delivered.

Outstanding update 2 by a VIP in the comments: $133.04 delivered on their own website with 4% cashrewards.com.au cash back and $10 off first purchase newsletter sign up. Which, after doing some serious number crunching I can confirm is 62% off

This is part of Father's Day deals for 2017.

  • Whats the warranty on it?

    • Looks like 2 years.

If you haven't bought from shaver shop online before, you get a $10 off voucher…so comes to $139 delivered.

Genuinely trying to get my head around this - what are the advantages of these higher-end models over ones that are regularly sold under $30?

I assume better battery at least - but do they do a better job somehow?

    • +1

More pulsations per minute is another reason.

    • +1

I have a older 7000 and it's a lot better then our other $50 oral b one. Has selected settings etc but feels better too but not at RRP

    • Do some further reading. The higher up models have better cleaning due to higher oscillations per minute. Also have pressure sensors and different program modes.

  • +10

For $6.49 more you can get the next model up from Chemist Warehouse Oral B Genius 8000 $155.49

    • +1

didn't know they released the new Genius line until now. Thanks

    • Would highly recommend this. The Genius has a better battery and more pulsations.

  • The 7000 is great, I've had one for years. Could be worth checking out the 9000 as it has a Lithium Ion battery (7000 has NiCad). Worth noting, you won't get the screen (which I like) with the 9000, as they now offer a phone app using bluetooth connectivity.

    • +6

Hehe the little screen face winks at you when you do a good job. Surely that's worth the money.

      • Is that little screen bluetooth? wonder if it will work with the 8000 series

        • It isn't Bluetooth, its linked using some other signal :(

    • +1

Do they have one that's over 9000???

      • Uh, over $9,000 you mean! ;-)

      • What! Over 9000?! There's no way that could be right…

(Google "over 9000 meme" if you don't know what it means.)

  • So what's the difference between the 7000 & 8000

    I also see a 9000

    • agree. all v similar w/ no real point of difference…

      • One has a smart timer and the other uses your phone BT app

And the 8000 has a better battery so it should last longer over the years?

      • 9000 has Lithium battery. 5000 gets a week battery life at best and takes at least 14-16 hours to charge fully. My previous Oral-b without bluetooth got much better battery life.

    • +4

I believe the 8000 and 9000 now have Lithium batteries as opposed to the older 7000 have NiCad batteries. Lithium apparently being the better tech, with faster charging and no 'memory effect' that NiCad has.

The 8000 also has position detection, according to Oral-B website:

"The advanced Position Detection technology of the GENIUS 8000 electric toothbrushes allows you to SEE where you’re brushing so you can ADJUST your technique and never miss a zone, all while having the confidence to KNOW that you’re getting a superior clean. The built-in 2-minute timer helps you brush just the right amount, with a timer for each zone of your mouth."

        Wow, name certainly checks out

      • +2

        Nimh not Nicd in 5000

  • Have had the Pro 5000 for a while and it has great features:
LCD screen with timer. Smiles, winks and stars - strangely does encourage one to brush for the full 2 min.5 stars if you get to 2.30
    Carry case is handy.
More importantly the high end models do come with more revolutions per minute as well as pressure sensors. Also some have settings to alter the speed and pressure.

If you are still using a conventional brush, its worth going to a starter model like the 500 (usually $25 to $49). See how you go from there.

  • +2

Replaceable batteries without having to get out the soldering iron would be nice. I am assuming the Oral-B 7000 still does not have this?

  • +1

How do these compare with the sonic care brushes?

  • For a bargain, I think the one where you have 2 in one with hydro floss is so much better. Like this one, for example
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Braun-Oral-B-Center-OxyJet-Oral-I…

  • +1

I would not go for that product at all!

it's an old series - and a bad one - see online reviews, this item is a dead inventory, it should be priced to clear at less than a 100!!! you can have the new Philips at COTD for that price!

    • I thought oral b > Philips?! Been happy with our oral b til he died (RIP buddy)

      • +2

i've been told by numerous dentists that the vibration style are better than the rotary style, however an important factor is that the sonic toothbrushes require a different brushing style, where you lightly run it over the surface of your teeth whereas the oscillating style is more forgiving in the style used. If you are coming from a manual brush then the oscillating head will more closely resemble the brushing style (including the mashing into teeth), whereas the vibration/sonic toothbrushes absolutely need the flicking motion at an optimal distance to perform the best

  • Hmm…this or the Xiaomi?

    • +12

Depends if you are comfortable with the Chinese government knowing you skipped brushing on the third Tuesday evening of October

How do you stop mould building up on the unit itself?

    • +7

Toothbrushbrush. Though I'm getting mould on my toothbrushbrush, anyone got any suggestions

      • Yeah, I've been doing the same to keep mould away on lower end model (which is usually on sale for ~ $30). Also removing the brush head and washing after use also helps minimise mould build up as per my experience.

    • +2

Make sure it's dry after use, especially if charging, but just make it a habit to towel it off around the handle once finished brushing.

      • 🙄

        • ANYONE GOT ANY REAL SUGGESTIONS??

        • +2

          @ChillBro:

I've never had mould issues but I always rinse unit and brush head under water, I shake the removable head 'dry' in the sink and the motor head always gets a very fast 'dry' over a towel… seems to be working as I've used these products for must be around 10 years and no mould as yet so good to know it's been worth the extra couple seconds over the years..

          Hope it helps..

        • +2

          @ChillBro:

My reply is somehow not real?

        • -1

@snuke: It's a joke on how lazy we are.

        • @ChillBro: Turn it on for a couple of seconds under the tap. Then pull off the brush and rinse that from the brush side, the back of the head, and up the shaft, then hang it on a tooth brush holder so the water drains out. Never an issue after that

    • remove water. wipe with clove oil

  • I’ve never owned a bad grooming and hygiene braun product. Some are at least close to 10 years old now and they still power on, although won’t hold a charge for long. I’ve gradually upgraded from a cheapie braun 30 toothbrush to the 5000 I’m using today, and they all still work to this day. I use the older ones as travel toothbrushes and don’t get me started on their shavers. I believe their higher end product lines are still made in Germany. Thinking of getting this so I can upgrade my travel toothbrush to the 5000 and use this as my daily :D

  • Thanks OP. Bought black ones for me and my partner using the $10 signup voucher.

  • I have this one and sonicare diamondclean, diamondclean's bettery seems to last a lot more use without charging.

  • I use 1x $1 tooth brush a month and have very clean teeth. Won't say "white" teeth because teeth aren't naturally white.

  • -1

Should i buy this or continue using my fingers to gently massage my teeth every morning? Side note: I scrape my teeth with my fingernails every month to remove plaque

    • +3

Thanks for sharing. I have cancelled my order and thrown my family's toothbrushes out. Can't wait to start fingering my mouth and especially looking forward to our monthly family fingernail scrape sessions

  • Thanks OP. I'm concerned that you were distressed about the situation. Hope you're feeling better.

8000 model is back at Chemist Warehouse for $155 too

  • Does anyone else use two at the same time? Am I the only one? Using two at the same time gets twice the job done in half the time…. just asking for a mate

    • Three here. Seems you haven't reached your true potential.

      • my true potential, THREE, you use 3! OMG, i feel sordid DP'ing two but you do three…wow….lol… whata' do, gaffa them together?…lol..
