4K TV Suggestion < $1000 for Xbox One X

I am planning on buying the Xbox One X and a new TV. I want to spend max $1500 for both together. Essentially this TV will be for my bedroom and I could probably fit a 50 inch in the space but nothing bigger.

Would love to hear your thoughts and opinions on which TV to get and how much to spend etc etc. Let's make this a total knowledge dump on cheap 4K TVs for gaming or even go the other way and tell me why I should spend more.

Posting this on a Friday so that we could have some drunk responses in the mix too!

I want to spend max $1500 for both together.

Xbox One X is going to be approx $650 AUD which you probably should have mentioned. Is the price above including some games or anything you want on the initial launch?

Base unit only. I've got the original day one Xbox One so I've got the other accessories and will have the games too.

  • Just get the cheapest with decent reviews. Which that is, I don't know. Perhaps think about buying one in local store so you can walk in and dump on desk to get refund/replacement if anything goes wrong.

You'd be playing in Game Mode anyway which turns off any fancy features.

I had the same consideration not too long ago, and it largely came down to HDR vs non-HDR.

To get the most out of the experience, you would want to get an HDR-enabled television. Sure, panels make a difference as not all 4K panels are made equal, but they're still in the rough ball park (unless we're talking about specific technology like OLED). I wasn't prepared to spend a lot of money, so just purchased a cheap 4K JVC from Big W last boxing day for around $340- it gets the job done, but nothing spectacular. If I were you, I'd either go down the route of a barebones like me, or hold off until christmas/boxing day sales and hope a 4K TV with HDR (and maybe even OLED) falls into your price range. By then, you should also have a little extra saved away.

I wouldn't spend ~$1000 on a TV in the next couple months, unless you happen upon a great deal. You'd be getting a TV that you would eventually upgrade anyway (like mine is) but not at a 'disposable' price.

    • this. a hdr-10 compatible tv is a must if you want the most out of the Xbox One X.

  • I bought a wasabi-mango from amazon, 43 inch, i20 model. does the job, looks great, only lacks HDR. paid around 550AUD from amazon. Korean TV at its finest, often re-branded for Kogan and other brands that appeal to cheapskates/resourceful spenders.

I expect the tv to last me 3-4 years. Im using it as a monitor (980GTX), played just cause 3 in 4k and it was alright, but lately ive been playing AoE2 so tv is running at 1080p.

Maybe look at the Hisense 50N6 if under $1000 for a good balance between quality and cost.

If you wanted HDR you'd need to go up to the 7 series (50N7) which would be $1195 without any deals or discount

    • This post is from ages ago but I was sitting down in front of my 50N7 and thinking about how it's got me through COVID and realised I got the recommendation off this forum. Thought I'd thank you for it.

  • Sony Bravia, the biggest you can afford.

  • Value for money under 55" i would agree with 'Buckster' and go with Hisense as the 50" N7 can be had for 1143.74 on eBay at the moment from 'BuySmarte' >> Use coupon code PAINT to get it down to $1029.37 >> Use Cash Rewards to get $13.38 back.

Net Cost after discount and cashback = $1,015 (dont compromise too much on TV quality else whats the point of getting the xbox one x, you are only as strong as your weakest link).
