MS Surface - Best Value?

The Surface didn't get into the current survey because of price. But how does it rate compared to the suggestions there?
What is the ideal model for the price? I saw a Pro 4, with no pen, from the MS Store at $899. Any good? Can you get an after market pen if wanted?

  • Does that include the keyboard? If it doesn't, not a great price.
Also if you are a student I'm sure that you can get a better price than that.

In my opinion they are kind of like an iPad. I reckon they are overpriced for what you get, but on the other hand they are quite the durable machine that will last a good number of years.
Kind of like pay a premium to get a premium if that makes sense?

To get back to your question though - best value? Probably not. Good value? Most likely.

  • +1

No aftermarket pen (but IMO not that useful). $899 was the previous 'deal' price for the m3 SP4 model with no kb/pen.

Unless you must have the Surface brand, the numerous clones from others like Lenovo and Samsung offer something similar but usually with more (eg ports). That being said, SP4 is great if you use the Surface connector in your life and there's an ecosystem of accessories.

  • Absolutely not worth it unless you really want a tablet form factor. I was seriously thinking of getting one couple months ago for uni. But after looking at numerous other options with better specs, getting a surface didnt make sense any longer. I ended up getting an asus ultrabook with 14" 1080p, i5 7th gen, GTX 940MX, 8gb RAM. It costed me around $1200 but considering the additional surface keyboard price, it was definitely worth it.

      • for Asus
  • You can get the same from Amazon US for about $700, just takes a week or so to arrive.
