Budget Hackintosh Build

Hi fellow bargain hunters,

I'm looking to take advantage of these eBay sales to purchase a system to be used for a Hackintosh build with a budget of around 200-450.

Will be for general usage, nothing intense. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Alternatively, you can buy old airs with broken chargers/batteries for $3-400 off ebay. Parts + mac toolkit (wierd screwdrivers and prys etc) will set you back under $100.

  • I would try the Hackintosh subreddit

Could consider buying Lenovo T series and X series thinkpads and then using them as hackintosh laptops.

For desktops, maybe you can try a cheap Dell Optiplex 780?

  • Hi, bought an ex-school A1342 mid-2010 MacBook with an SSD off eBay. Same browsing experience, if not faster than a Win 10 i7-4790 desktop. Paid $250 and no issues, except with heavy graphical applications/3d gaming.

  • Desktop or laptop?

  • I've been thinking about this too.

Currently have a MPB 2012 with SSD and 16gb ram so not quite ready to jump ship yet as it runs incredibly well for a ~5 year old computer. These may be worth a look on ebay if your budget stretches - in fact missus has a 2009 MBP, again SSD and max ram and still runs great (if not quicker than launch) for word processing and web browsing.

I am considering a HP Elite 8000 - I have seen these on ebay for 100-150$ - then add an SSD (another 100-150) plus graphics card and extra ram probably looking at just under $500.

  • PC, Mac or Hackintosh, my only suggestion is to include an SSD.
