Best Transport Method from Reservoir -> Deakin University, Geelong Waurn Ponds

I need to get from Reservoir to Deakin University in Geelong Waurn Ponds by 9am on a Wednesday. I've never been to Victoria so have no idea what the best method would be. Could someone please help me out and list costs involved too. I'm not too sure where to start with public transport as their seems to be quite a few types.

    • Alright, so public transport is going to take me 2.5 hours and I need to leave 5:50am. Do you know how I can get an estimated cost for this trip?

      • Check under Tickets on the same site.

        • Yeh, just saw that now. It's a bit confusing but I'm getting there slowly.

        • @nurries: Looks like you do it all on Myki, once you figure out full fare/concession etc.

        • @Baysew:

Where does it say what times are classified as peak/ off peak as seen here https://www.ptv.vic.gov.au/tickets/fares/regional-fares/

Sadly, it looks like concession doesn't apply to me because I don't have a Victorian address :/

        • @nurries: Under Regional Fares

Fares for all journeys in more than two zones on V/Line services receive a 30% off-peak discount, except where touch off occurs within Zone 1 before 9am on a business day or touch on occurs within Zone 1 between 4pm and 6pm on a business day. Customers must touch on and off to receive an off-peak fare.

ie Morning Journey Melbourne to Geelong = Off Peak (Makes sense, you are going in opposite direction to everyone else)

        • @Baysew:

So I should get a 30% discount. And another question which might sound stupid but If I buy the daily pass, can I return with that same pass or would I need to buy another one?

@nurries: You have to buy a Myki card $6 and then load enough money for all your fares. You then tap on and off.

        • @nurries:
With myki once you have exceeded 2 hrs travel you are automatically upgraded to a day pass. Which is basically 2x2hr fares added together. If you want to do the cheap ozbargain myki travel get off at Sunshine on the way back, tap off and tap on your myki card their, transfer to a metro train but when u reach Melbourne dont go through any ticket gates, transfer to your train at flinders st or what ever is easist, then make sure you tap of at Reservoir.

Hitch a ride with Bikies. Sure to be plenty in reservoir with mates in the ponds area.

    • OP doesn't want to end up in Moonee Ponds.

    • Can you recommended me any in particular?

      • The Finks are aligned with Bandidos, as well as being friendly with the Comancheros so I would go with them.

    • Also, should I be more cautious in those 2 areas I've mentioned or are they fine?

Fairly good area ….. for Geelong.

        Carna Hawks!

Reservoir used to be a bit rough.

  • I take it you don't have a car ? Because that would actually be the easiest way to go…

    • No, and I don't want to pay $100 or so to hire a car tbh

      • How much did it work out to be?

      • It wouldn't be $100. Also time is money… you'd be able to sleep in for another hour-hour and a half and leave at 7:30 and wouldn't have to spend 2.5 hours on a train.

How are you getting from the airport to reservoir ?

        • It was well over $100 as I'm only 22.

No idea. I'm just going to wing it on the day. I guess by bus or something?

        • @nurries:
          See my post above.

        • @nurries: Get the sky bus to southern cross and then a train to reservoir.

Reservoir isn't the nicest area either.

I'm guessing you're from interstate and going to a open day or something ??

Actually Helicopter is the easiest way to get to Geelong. (Can be career ending though)
