Choosing between $200 off PS4 Pro or PSVR

I just signed up to MyRepublic (a dice roll I know) and their special offer is $200 off a PS4 Pro or PSVR. Since I have a PS4 and Oculus Rift already this isn't clear cut.

Getting a PS4 Pro with the discount and selling my PS4 would result in a graphics upgrade for the future Spider-Man game and for Horizon Zero Dawn DLC. I can accept the PS4 graphics that still look good and try a new experience with PSVR, however I have an Oculus Rift yet to try.

Thoughts on which I should pick?

Just remember you also have a third option - don't buy something you don't really need (not the Ozbargain way I know) and instead sell the $200 voucher onto someone else who might have a stronger need for it.

      Whoa (Keanu style)

See if you like VR on O.R first.

Either sell the voucher or get the Pro and sell your old PS4. I'd take option 2, you probably would end up upgrading for around $100

  • I have to admit, the PSVR headset feels like a more comfortable and solid product than the Oculus Rift, but the Rift does a better job.

  • Personally I would take the ps4 pro as better frame rates and overall performance would benefit me more. Also don't you need like a ps4 pro to do vr in the first place or can the ps4 normal handle it?

    • The normal PS4 does VR fine, when my Pro arrived, the only thing I noticed was more detail on the racing game Driveclub (like flower petals and leaves dropping, etc) the game felt the same, that said, I never went back to compare on games like Resident Evil VII.
I didn't feel the VR was lacking on the PS4.

Some games feel nice at 60FPS (I can't really tell the difference between 4K and 1080…)

People were paying up to $150 for the MyRepublic vouchers last time the deal was on.
