So it has been reported that PS4 sales have doubled Xbox One sales.

Is it the same on OzBargain?

    I have bought neither.

    • +3

That might help as an option - thanks.

EDIT: Can't do it. Hits the 'mod assistance' button.

      EDIT2: Scotty to the rescue!

        • +1

Most of those PCs are pre-built low end systems from big box retailers that have no bearing on this poll.

    • -2

Great response. People downvoting this missed the sarcasm.

      • +3

Wolfy, I don't believe there was any sarcasm. He's probably being negged because a tablet is not a good comparison to a gaming console.

        • Which is fair. Everybody has different needs and tastes.

      • What sarcasm?

I bought nothing, so I don't have to use any electricity, weighs nothing and needs no tv. That's sarcasm

  • +4

It really depends on what games you want to play.

    • +17

Halo or everything else.. tough decisions.

  • +1

I don't technically have both, my brother has a PS4,

I did buy the Xbox One twice: xbox one elite, ebgames and xbox one s at $180ish - used as a 4k Blu ray player just once so far.

PS4 exclusives do impressive me more.

    • $180ish? The link you posted has them listed for $300?

      • +1

I was looking at BIG W ebay for a listing and there was a small window of time where it was priced at $199 which I coupled with a 10% off code.

        Description Unit price Qty Amount

NEW Xbox One S 500GB Halo Wars 2 Console Bundle

        Item number 122368384514 $199.00 AUD 1 $199.00 AUD

        Shipping and handling $9.90 AUD
        Insurance - not offered ——
        Other discounts -$19.90 AUD
        Total $189.00 AUD
        Payment $189.00 AUD

        • That was a good deal. I would probably jump on that.

  • +1

Xbox one here. had a 360, all my mates were sticking with Xbox when the One came out. Just preordered the One X the other day as well.

    • +1

      Fist pump

      • +2

        Pump or bump?

        • +3

bump = requires a secondary and willing fist (and owner) to proceed with bumpage.

pump = requires a single fist to be raised upwards from the waist and in front of the person whose fist belongith. No other person required.

Stix, I support your solo fisting effort. Good job!

I therefore enact the 3rd fisting option… raised fist.

raised = raise your clenched fist up over your head and slightly lower your gaze to the ground, to signify power to the people.

    • Scorpio edition?

  • I bought an Xbox One and love it, but can't wait to buy a PS4 for Uncharted and Horizon Zero Dawn.

    • +1

I recently bought a PS4 bundle from JBs that came with Unchartered 4 - was so impressed with the game I bought 1-3 on the PS store, so I could start from the beginning.

      Great game.

    Blondes or Brunettes

    • -1

I'm guessing Brunettes are supposed to be the sensible, TV guide looking types of the slower Xbox One S.
I'm guessing Blondes are meant to be PS4, because blondes have more fun =P

If you want to play most big third-party games and use it for Netflix etc, you can't go wrong with either a PS4 slim or XBox One S, most of the popular games are available on both.

    Two important things to note:
    - If you want to be playing online games with friends, then get the console your friends have.
    - Have a look at the exclusives for each console, those games could sway your opinion (e.g. the Uncharted games and Horizon Zero Dawn on PS4).

I'm on team PlayStation, but you can't really go wrong picking either.

  • +1

Xbox One S is (now) cheaper and supports 4K video and UHDbluray. It has Halo, Forza, and that's about it for exclusives.

PS4 has tons more exclusives, better exclusives, and is graphically better a tiny bit.

Everything is a pro/con, up to you to choose which areas you prefer over others.

  • +3

    Pc

  • +2

I got a ps4 mainly for the exclusives and I'm very happy I did. Loved the last of us, uncharted, and horizon.

    • I got the PS4 for No Mans Sky… it nearly turned me off PS4 exclusives for good… then Horizon Zero Dawn came out… Faith restored! Awesome game! And even NMS has become a pretty good game after 12months of continued development…

      • what? No Man's sky nearly turned you off PS4 exclusives… lol

        • Preordered NMS and played it on release day. Instant buyer's remorse. Didn't turn the PS4 on again until someone lent me Horizon Zero Dawn…

  • +6

    Get a Gaming PC.
Use emulators to play Atari, Sega, NES, SNES, GBA, N64, PS1, PS2, PSP, DS, GameCube, Wii, and Wii U games.
Then play the many PC exclusive games.
Then play the many PC games from years ago, because it has near-unlimited backwards compatibility.
    Then play modern PC titles.
Then play the niche games, such as Web Games and Indie titles.

….and once you're all done, see if there's any exclusive games on the Xbox One PS4 or Nintendo Switch that you really want.
Chances are you might still get a console only for the exclusive, or might not even get a console.
The keyboard, mouse, and free multiplayer are too big to look away from.
On top you get Steam Sales, much better VR, much better refresh display/monitors, Gamepad compatibility, and can use it as per a regular computer.
Not to mention, that it generally plays movies better as some Apps crash on Android and others on iOS/consoles won't support FHD/4K streaming.

Its just a better system overall, sure it can be clunky and has some caveats… but the reason its better is because it puts the power towards the consumer, so there's better competitiveness happening on the PC Platform rather than the consoles.

        Uncharted 1-4
        Uncharted The lost legacy
        Horizon zero dawn

        Detroit become human
        Death stranding
        Days gone
        God of war
        Rachet and clank
        Crash bandicoot
        GRAN TURISMO SPORT
The last of us 1 and 2
        Bloodborne
        Spider-Man (the new one)

"But now it's just an Uncharted, Horizon zero dawn and a lowly rated 4th Killzone."

        What?

        • -1

Wait for Crash to one day come out on Xbox. The give away is that it hasn’t got “Only on PlayStation” on the cover…

        • -3

Many of those are PS3 games. I won't believe last of us 2 is coming until it's out. Forza is better than Gran Turismo. Rest are kids games.

        • +2

@Gizdonk:every single one of those are either out now on ps4 or coming this year or next year.

No idea whwre you got ps3 game from.

        • -2

Last of us 2 is probably a long way off. Please tell me I'm wrong…

I held out buying next gen console for ages. Got an Xbox one in the end. Last of Us 2 (if it was out) would have made me go PS4.

Will get a PS4 when it is released in a couple years.

        • +1

@Dan83: Last of us 2 will have a similar release as the first one. Last of us 2 on PS4/Pro and Last of us 2 remastered on PS5.

        • @Dan83: Perhaps my first neg :) Not sure what for.

      • +2

Nah, all the best exclusives are on PS4. Persona 5 in addition to the others you mentioned. What has Xbox got - Forza?

        • +1

It's completely personal preference. I thought PS3 was superior to 360. Many of those are just definitive editions of PS3 games. In fairness, Halo, Gears of war, quantum Break, ryse, state of decay, fable, zoo tycoon, tomb raider, dead rising, Forza, killer instinct, sunset overdrive and slime rancher.

P.s I'm enjoying getting down voted

        • @Gizdonk: Dude serious only like 5 of those i listed are from ps3 but are still relevant cause they are remastered for the ps4.
Uncharted 1-3 crash bandicoot the last of us 1 the rest are all NEW games.

still alot more than XBOX and i didn't list ALL ps4 exclusives only a few.

        • @Gizdonk: What a weak list of games.

  • +5

    PC

  • +2

I have both and get a pc and install steam. Games are cheaper and better quality too

    • What does that even mean?

      • -1

'A black cat jumped over the fence'

        What jumped over the fence?

  • +1

Those sales figures include Japan, where it is seen as the patriotic choice to buy Sony. Xbox has much better entertainment features and imo exclusives. You can also normally get an Xbox for cheaper.

Make the decision on whether you would prefer all the Halo games, gears of war, Ryse, Forza, Dead Rising and Quantum Break or Uncharted, Crash Bandicoot, Horizon zero dawn and Killzone.

    • +12

Those sales figures include Japan, where it is seen as the patriotic choice to buy Sony

People buy whatever platform has the games they want, so it's not exactly a stretch to assume that Japanese consumers prefer the console that has more JRPGs. Also, Japan accounts for less than 10% of global PS4 sales, while over half of Xbox sales are from North America; so if anything, maybe it's 'seen as patriotic' for Americans to buy Xbox. You see the illogical nationalistic rabbit hole you've dug yourself into?

      • -1

Not really. Xbox is extremely unpopular in Japan despite making a decent effort over the years by launching Jrpgs. I mainly get that view off individual cases on YouTube comments where I've seen Japanese people hate on Xbox as American crap and Proclaim Nintendo and Sony are superior because they're Japanese. And no, I believe PS4 is still more popular in the US, so not many of them must be patriotic (I highly doubt it) if your argument stands up.

        • +10

Firstly, Japanese consumers are not mindless drones who'll buy whatever comes from Japan. Have you been? iPhones and German cars everywhere, despite strong domestic competitors. This suggests the Japanese (like most of us) don't just base their purchase decisions on arbitrary nonsense like nationalism but rather what they perceive as the better product.

Secondly, the PS4 has games like Persona and Monster Hunter that Japanese consumers tend to want. This is inarguable. The 360 tried winning them over with some mediocre titles like Blue Dragon, it didn't work. So while you mightn't care about what the PS4 offers, there's obviously a market for it, which explains the strong sales without broadly accusing an entire county of voting by the flag.

Lastly, you're trying to handwave away Japanese sales because it's 'locked in' for Sony. Yet even if you exclude the supposedly tainted JA market, it's still 2:1. However, exclude Microsoft's home market and non-NA sales nosedive from 30M to 12M. The maths suggests that more people globally prefer the PS4. Whatever nationalistic angle you want to use to explain that away, is inconsequential.

        • Xbox unpopular everywhere

    • Lol this guy. "I swear I'm not a fanboy!" *lists every Xbox exclusive ever alongside a list of PS4 games that conveniently skips 90% of the PS4 exclusives (including some of the most acclaimed games of this gen) but makes mention of a poor launch title and a remaster

  • +3

I got a PS4 but if money is no issue PC is probably the way to go

  • +2

Gaming PC, but own both for exclusives. IMO, this year has been an embarrassment of riches on PS4 between Persona 5, Horizon Zero Dawn, Nier, and both Uncharted games. 2017 has been a wash for Xbox and the only exclusives I've been looking to (Sea of Thieves, Crackdown) have been pushed to 2018.

  • +1

Not sure if you're asking for yourself or trying to get an indication on what most people on here have purchased?

If you're not terribly fussy about playing the latest titles, an Xbox 360/PS3 has plenty of good games and they can still be had for relatively cheap. If you want to go back even further into playing games on older systems, there are plenty of cheap alternatives. That's the best part about this hobby. It can be expensive but also really cheap providing you don't need to play the latest and greatest.

    • I was just curious as to the split on OzB. I'm in the Xbox camp personally.

      • +1

Xbox all the way for me then. I'm too heavily invested.

I was contemplating a PS4 when Microsoft first introduced the Xbox One. Mainly due to the silly restrictions they were going impose, but have been swayed back over the years. I still have my Xbox 360 games and have a stack acquired from Games With Gold (and sales) so I would be silly to switch camps now. Barely have time to enjoy these games but I am still tinkering with the idea of a gaming PC. Go figure!

  • +1

I bought an Xbox one to play rare replay (conkers bad fur day). I regret my decision to buy an Xbox one as all the games worth playing are on PS4. And conkers was not as good as people say (probably because it wasn't nostalgic for me)

    • +1

      That was a bad decision.

    • +1

I agree and am in same boat. I am mostly a PC gamer so not that concerned but the only console games I want to play are on PS4 (Horizon ZD, Persona 5, Last of Us)

  • +1

If you want to play many games or you want to have a controller with an actual dpad, choose ps4. If you want to watch blue ray dvds (whatever they are, something about 4k?) or you want to play Ori and the blind forrest, Cuphead, or Forza Horizon (that's pretty much it, unless you like first person shooters) chose xbox

    • +3

For me, the Xbox controller seems easier to hold.

      Bring back the Duke controller!

      • +1

I own both PS4 and Xbox One… and can confirm, the PS4 controller is horrible. Feels so tiny and rubbish plasticity. I just wish I could connect my Xbox controller to my PS4.

      • Big +1! Xbox controller is the best.

  • -1

Imo, the Nintendo Switch is a more worthwhile purchase than the xbone

    • +1

Why won't the Nintendo overlords of which I bow down to in eternal reverence release the gotdayum Virtual Console already?! It's the only thing stopping me from getting a switch.

'You hear that Nintendo overlords!? I've got a wad of cash with your name on it :)'

      • +1

        Amen brother….

This and not re-buying games I've previously purchased on VC…some twice already!

I would be content even if "some" of my digital games would carry over to the Switch. If digital Wii/Wii U were ever brought over, then my faith would be completely restored. Gotta have hope!

  • +1

I have a PC, so I see no reason to buy an xbox. It was the same since the xbox 1, every game would come out on pc anyway, so really, why would you bother?

Plus I hate the xbox controllers, so yeah, a ps4 vote from me.

    • Halo! 👍🏻

      • Halo 1 and 2 is on the PC

    • What if you have friends who have an Xbox and are unwilling to buy a PC as well? Then buying an Xbox to play with them is a good option

  • I'm on Xbox one and have bought a bunch of digital games since having a 360. I would probably have a catalogue of close to 200 games. I also run family sharing so my mate can have access to all of those games too. Whilst I loved playing uncharted when I've had access to a ps3/4 I can't bring myself to switch over even though I am a sucker for gimmicks like the PSVR. So in short, I'm looking for an excuse to buy the Xbox one x like a game bundle. You reckon they might bring the price down a tad or add a game this Xmas?

  • +1

Bought a PS4 close to launch, but it's been collecting dust for over a year now. Always playing PC.
Will probably plug it back in when TLOU2 releases.

  • Got ahem most consoles……

I was the only gamer in the family..then I saw an opportunity…feel bad to influence my son so he can play with me but better than gaming alone.

Strangely I was addicted to playing them when I was a teen, now I am just collecting them like drugs… well as long as its a good stress remover I will be doing it as long as it takes ^_^

  • Waiting for Gran Turismo Sport for me as I can't afford luxury cars so its the best game for me to test them out ^O^

Make sure it runs on the PS4 Pro bad boy if you are planning to get it.

  • +4

PC. But I have PS4 Pro. Had an Xbox One until I finished the games on it that I wanted to play, then when Microsoft said PC gets all xbox exclusives, we'll don't need xbox any more. But PS4 has some stellar exclusives. So I'll keep that console.

    • ^^ This

I have a PS4 as I'm on a MAC laptop and when I inevitably switch to a PC with an external GPU I'll keep the PS4 for the exclusives. The new Xbox One X looks great but seems a bit pointless on a unified platform. This new idea of a $600+ console being released every two years makes upgrading your PC a better investment and the console can sit in the lounge for casual gaming.

PS4, PC and I'll eventually get a Switch.
