Coolant for 2000 Mitsubishi Lancer 1.8l?

Previously used "cool guard anti freeze" as per the invoice 5 years ago, time for changing the coolant (changed at 90k, now at 117k)?

Is the Nulon pre-mix coolant on sale today @SCA okay to use in my car?

  • I've never used that cheaper Nulon stuff before, I've always used this stuff, http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/Product/Nulon-Long-Life-Ant… , and that bottle will make 18L of coolant, should be enough to give a bit of a flush to your engine.

As long as your car has green coolant in it now, it is safe to use.

agreed get the Concentrate the other stuff is just coloured water.

    • Hahahah…. I'm going to apply the same logic to cordial and orange juice concentrate from now on…

One is pre mixed, one is not mixed. It's the same stuff. You pour the concentrate in and then add water or you buy the "coloured water" and just pour it in.

Coloured water. Now I really have heard it all… :D

  • Just make sure it is the same colour (green to green - blue to blue), dont do the pre mixed, buy the concentrate and just go 50/50 ratio with distilled water. Also if you are really adventurous watch a youtube video by Chrisfix called super flush, great tutorial. You dont have to super flush but you can just do it once only and be fine, you also dont have to use the flushing additive.

  • I always use genuine coolant

    • What's that?

      • Geniune meaning original coolant they suppy at the dealership which is original equipment (OE) used by the manufacturer. For my car it is AC Delco 5L of concentrate for $60, my radiator takes 10L in total.

My mate who is a mechanic services my car and the only thing he is particular about is using geniune coolant and brake fluid. He also recommends the concentrate because you can't always get rid of the old coolant which remains in the engine block so the premixed stuffed would get diluted even more.

        • Thanks for the detailed reply, though my car is 18 years old…
