Fast & reliable scanner

Hi all,

Anyone used the Canon LIDE 90 before? As far as I can see, it's cheapest at MSY.com.au but unsure how well the z-lid does with book scanning.

The cheapskate (Department) school I'm with at the moment doesn't even have a networked scannerfor us teachers to use (read: stupid IT admin won't let us use it cos it "might cause security issues") . I may have to fork out $$$ for my own but just claim it off tax at the end of the financial year :(

  • I'm happy with my Canon N650U, bought it when 1st come out & still going smoothly. The only down side is when scan something thick but with the z-lid I think it better.

  • Alternatively you can buy a cheaper all in one printer that has scan copy and prnt

like this one a month or so ago

it just depends on how good a scan you want, if its just text these would be fine, if its high quality graphics then a dedicated scanner

So you can get one probably cheaper than it takes to submit a requisition form….

MSY also have a HP all in one f2120 printer for $49

  • I'm also looking for a fast scanner (yup, it has to be fast or at least has a reasonable speed). I'm a student and I often borrow books from my uni library. Some books are highly demanded so I only can borrow them for a few days. I want to scan the chapters I need then return them. I've already got a multifunction printer, but it scans very slowly and it won't scan if it runs out of ink.

  • I have a canon Lide 200

that I'm very pleased with…..runs off usb, so quite portable….I use it for old photographs and have been very pleased with the results…you can put a few pics on it and it will recognise them and save them seperately as individual files. Can save things in a number of formats…..
Dunno about books, the lid is a flat lid, but I guess if you scanned with the lid up it wouldn't really matter.

I reckon it was about $125 from MSY

    bit of a review here…..

    • actually…..looking at your link, it looks like the lide 200 is the same as the lide 90 (in Europe), so yes….I have one…(also….MSY don't sell a 'lide 90')

      • nope, looked closer…the lide 90 is an archived product, so the 100 and 200 must be newer models…..
