    ANyone with experience with these devices care to comment how well they work in real life?

    • They suck. I have one that can be charged solarly but I always use USB. Are you going to put that thing outside to charge?

      • +2

        All these people seem to counter your theory - https://www.amazon.com/BlitzWolf-Portable-Cellphone-Foldableā€¦

        Plus other sources around net give it good ratings.

        Unless you are multi-day hiking you probably don't need it. During my hikes I have one on my pack trickle charging a power pack when needed, then use that on whatever device you need during sleep etc… win.

      • +1

        Are you going to put that thing outside to charge?

        Isn't that exactly what you're supposed to do, solar = outside ?

        If you're camping, leave it in the sun to charge the battery, similarly hiking, or canoeing etc It's a tiny panel, it will probably take all day to charge a reasonable battery.

        • You can charge it inside, but outside is much more effective. It's still very slow compared to getting it from the wall.

    • inasero,
      I just read the Fine print. "Delivers up to 2A. So it would be a slow charge. Better off with a power bank. Could be handy it you are away from a Power source for long periods. Camping

      • +3

        Agreeing with inasero about camping as a likely use. Did a rough calculation, At about 20% efficiency panels generate approximate maximum 200W/m2; So estimating the 2 panel sizes as 290mm x 145mm each = 0.08m2; 0.08m2 x 200W/m2 = 16W approximate maximum from the panels under very good conditions. This is consistent with the claimed 15W.

        • Its only useful camping if you are going for 7 days+ and need to use your phone a lot.

          In all other circumstances a Xiaomi powerbank will be actually useful instead of struggling to get enough sun to charge your device slowly.

        • +2

          Even if camping for up to a week, I would like to have this, particularly if the alternative is having no way to recharge anything at all if the powerbank becomes exhausted.

        • +1

          You'd be lucky to get 14% efficiency under ideal conditions (cool temp, bright sun, ideal amgle). 20% is way too high an estimate.

        • +1

          @cheepwun: That's an unsupported assertion.

        • +1

          @oztonyau:

          So are the manufacturer's (rebranders) claims.

          been using solar for years….feel free to think what you want….or actually get some real-world experience.

        • +1

          @cheepwun: I don't accept as fact personal anecdotes with nothing to back them up.

        • -1

          @oztonyau:

          You must be new to solar.

          Please show me a commercial panel that reaches 20% efficiency in the real-world that the masses are actually buying (not lab results) and then show me the cells getting 20% efficiency when integrated into a foldable product, ignoring all the dc-dc losses of 5v USB conversion (to make it even easier for you).

          Waiting. The only personal anecdotes are those from your mouth. Your magical unicorn doesn't exist.

          @cheepwun: Go troll somewhere else.

          @oztonyau:

          Stating facts is trolling in your mind? Still waiting on your answer, mate. I'll be here to hear of those unicorn sightings.

        • @cheepwun: I don't take orders from trolls like you.

          @oztonyau:
          Shock. You seem perfectly qualified to take orders…and troll.

        • +1

          @cheepwun: I don't accept as fact your personal anecdotes with no evidence at all nothing to back them up.

        • +1

          @oztonyau:

          Keep trolling mate…no evidence except all the commercial solar products selling to the masses. I guess some people get their kicks from an obvious troll. Wonderful…

        • +1

          @cheepwun: I still don't accept as fact your personal anecdotes with no evidence at all, nothing, to back them up. This isn't trolling. It is asking for evidence for your assertions, if you have it, that would better inform ozbargain users. Do you have any evidence apart from personal anecdotes?

          Ignoring the BS argument you two are having over essentially nothing, what are your recommendations?

    BlitzWolf 20W Solar Power model available for US$43.84.

    • This is the only device worth buying

      Fast charging and rated higher then you actually need in perfect conditions which translates to actually being somewhat useful in real life usage.

    • +1

      "For Apple,the common current Output can be up to 1.8A -1.9A,Others is almost 1.3A." Still could be advantageous to buy the 20W model over the 15W model because it may develop more usable power on cloudy days.

      • +1

        I think the "For Apple" is simply being said to highlight for apple users. Plug appears to simply be normal USB plug that you can use for android.

    Anything else think the idea of leaving your phone in the sun while charging is a really really bad idea?

    • +2

      Wait, so this doesn't actually have power bank inside it? It doesn't have battery that will store the solar power? Because if it does, you wouldn't need to leave your phone in the sun… I'll give this one a miss.

      • +2

        The description "power bank" is likely a chinese mistranslation, or deliberate mislabeling. It does not have any lithium batteries in it.

      • +2

        You could charge your powerbank with this.

    Far better deals on ebay for the non-brandists, if u want this sort of thing.

    • +1

      Blitzwolf is a decent brand name though.

      • +1

        If you feel confidence in a brand…as opposed to unique engineering….feel free to pay more than you should for this.

        • +3

          Feel free to link some ebay examples of the similar things so we can look and compare

          @Spectator:

          feel free to search for 15w solar foldable panel (which isn't really 15w, like this one)…plenty of products available. Feel free to search for 10w foldable panel too. And so on.

        • +3

          @cheepwun: My point was that I couldn't find anything comparable at a cheaper price on ebay, requesting a link to these "far better deals". I did search. Didn't find what you were talking about.

        • -1

          @Spectator:
          easy to find lower-priced alternarives…I never said they were branded Blitzwolf.

    Get a long USB cable, and use it to charge a powerbank during the day, leave the powerbank in a shady spot.

    Use the powerbank to charge your devices at night.

    I did this while camping, and it worked well. I had a 20W panel.

    • +1

      Second this, charging a phone is good and all, but having a full powerbank is better.
      Get full speed charging from the power bank whilst any surplus power is stored after the phone is full.
      A small 10W panel that can be mounted on a backpack and a 10Ah (~37Wh if i had my way) power bank would be a great pair.
      When not on the move plonk your backpack down with the panel facing the sun.
      Then later on charge at full speed from the powerbank at your convenience without having you leave the phone/solar setup in a particular position.

    • +2

      Remember that the panel itself is going to create a shady spot. You need to prop the panel up to make it perpendicular to the sun anyway, put the battery in the shade underneath it.

      curious how long does it take to charge?
