  • There are hundreds of solar panel businesses. Have you contacted any for quotes?

  • Read some reviews on Solar Quotes and choose someone with good reviews.

  • Reearch & common sense.

My experience (in WA) is a solar hot water system is great for a small family. Solar power grid systems are a dumb way to weigh down your roof.
    Just my opinion.

    • Can you please provide your calculations for what you've stated above?

Our 3.705kW system (Adelaide) cost $5,750 and produces 5,200 kW a year.
The panels and inverter are covered by at least a 10 year warranty.
Over a 10 year lifespan the cost per kW is < $0.15 which will reduce further if the system continues producing for > 10 years.

Currently our system is saving us around $1,250 a year but this may vary depending on individual electricity charges, feedin tariffs, house location and environment, roof space and pitch, amount and time of energy use.

In WA the majority of fedback energy profits Synergy, we get about 10c/kw I think and pay about 25c/kw for usage. Unless on the special rate the government once offered.

This wasn't advertised anywhere at the time I bought, and possibly still isn't. I would be ~15y to break even, if hail doesnt hit, or inverter fails. Better to buy ASX shares etc and go forward IMO.

O.P. If you're building a new house it's important to consider it's energy efficiency as the first priority.

Maybe check out the Whirlpool Green Technology forum for solar system information.

  • Thanks for all suggestions, appreciated
