ATO Scare Mongering?

Is it just me, or has the ATO been much more active in their PR about the 'common man' claiming too much/incorrectly?

They Probably Know More Than You Do

This doesn't come off as educational, but rather scaring people off.

Couldn't more time and effort be spent on multinational tax avoidance, and internal ATO corruption or is that easier to sweep under the rug? Sorry to get ranty.

Couldn't more time and effort be spent on multinational tax avoidance

Not really: tax avoidance is legal and big business has paid to have the legislation so that they pay almost no tax.

You need to stop voting for Liberal and Labour who continue this disgraceful game of shifting the tax burden to individuals whilst allowing enterprise, particuarly large enterprise, to pay almost nothing.

    • Would love for it to happen but sounds Utopian rather than a feasible reality. Still, gotta do our part when election time comes.

They run the same stories every year around tax time. They just change the occupations/deductions mentioned.

    • Agree, but this year the messages seem more direct and stern, plus covering the masses that 'you are doing it wrong, and we will catch you' - maybe just my perception.

      • Honestly I think its a mixtures between the 'news' trying to appeal to your inner anger (emotion? thoughts?) more now then usual, mixed with Facebook and Google getting real good at targeting this news likely meaning you're seeing it more often.
