Be Careful of Sony Official 'Refurbished' on eBay

I would just like everyone to know to be weary of the Official Sony Store Seconds on eBay. I purchased a TV on eBay from the official store only to receive an product with 2 major flaws. I can understand sometimes electronics break down, it happens, but this TV would have been through a second quality control and still allowed to be sold. The TV (KD55X7000D) has screen damage and restarts intermittently, even more frequent if running netflix on Android TV. Sure I'm bitter and will get a replacement/refund but I'd just like to make sure everyone buys with caution.

I'll update this this post to let you know how Sony deals with it.

I bought the damaged box soundbar, box wasn't damaged at all so I assumed must be refurbished.

Broke down in two weeks, sent back, repaired, broke again. 2x more times repair and 2x more broken. yet they want to repair again for the 4th times. I said no way.

I reported to accc sony melt down and gave full refund.

    • Did they charge u return postage?

      • no but it was super trouble to organise someone at home for them to pickup and to receive.
3x pickups 3x returns, item is around 10kgs.
it was 4-5 months nightmare chapter of my life. never buy sony again.

People should shop around. Why would you buy refurbished when you can get a brand new one around the same price?

    • It was a good deal, part of the eBay % off sale and I've purchased refurbished before (from Apple) and had no problem. I thought being a major company I'd have the same experience. This isn't a witch hunt against Sony, just want people to be cautious when buying these seconds from Sony.

      • I've had friend buying form apple complaining about issues as well. There's always risk with 2Nd hand

yeah. i got the 65x9000c from them and it came without the bluetooth remote. Got a link to their FAQ which says it's not a necessary item for operation so it's not guaranteed to be included in the box :/

  • all the new generation sonys are rubbish, new or refurbished.
the earlier generation models from Japan were a much better build quality and hold up much longer without any issues.

  • Sorry to dig up an old thread, but has there been an update M0nkeycheese?

I'm tempted to get a tv with the current ebay deal, but a bit worried after reading this thread.

Another other oz bargainers buy a refurbed tv from Sony's ebay store and been happy with it?

    Cheers

    • They refunded it fully, free return shipping

  • The issue I’d have with Sony refurb is that I can’t stand DSE or screen uniformity issues, which are both generally non-repairable, the hope being that you can take back to the retailer and either get an exchange or a refund, but being returb they could just as easily say bad luck.

I’m not saying that it would go that way, but it’s just too much of an issue for me, particularly if it’s a unit that’s been sent back b/c of those problems.

I purchased a refurbished KD60X6700E from their eBay store a few days ago for $710, it got delivered from Syd to bris in a day and a half and was in pristine condition! Seriously didn't even look like it had been used before! When I opened it up, everything was still in the original packaging and no sign of wear.

So in my eyes, it's a perfect purchase for an awesome price! An absolutely beautiful TV also.

The Toll delivery driver even called to figure out delivery times and everything.
