Motorbike Recommendations for a Short Person - I'm 165 Cm Tall - $4k Budget

Motorbike Recommendations for a Short Person - I'm 165 Cm Tall - $4k Budget (would prefer something 1-2 years old) and with low km's.

I have tried the Z125 and loved it. Going to try the Grom soon.

I've had a cbr250r before and it was a little bit too big/uncomfy for me. I need to comfortably touch the ground with two feet while on the bike..

looking forward to the recommendations - please and thank you :)

I'm roughly the same height and I've got a CBR250R at the moment. Love it to bits and it doesn't feel that big/awkward once you get use to it.

My go to was the ERGO simulator. You can plug in values for your height, leg length and all that and you can see what you'll look like on the bike of your choice.

I had a CBR125R and it was awesome. I'd either chose the CBR125R or Grom.

Grom is cool. But I just got a CB400 to last me for a few years.

    • Is the CB400 a large-ish bike?

      • I am 180cm and feeling ok. It is a bit heavier though.

Choose the Honda Grom. The Z125 has rubbish front brakes (single piston).

    Grom

  • Thanks for the responses ! Grom is looking pretty great right now!!

    • Only thing to look out for, I wouldn't take the Grom (or any other 125/250cc motorbike) on the freeway. Get a CB400 or GS500 or something similar for that. Grom is an awesome city bike.

While the Grom and Z125 would be a good sized bike and well within the budget, just note that they are very limited in horsepower and top speed. If you ride it across the city to work every day, great bike. If you plan on doing anything on the open road on the weekend, take a packed lunch, cause you won't be getting there very fast.

Another alternative to look at that usually has a low seat height are cruiser style bikes. And I know this will garner a plethora of neg votes because the "sports bike is the only way to fly" mentality here is real. I would stick clear of the grey import sports bikes. Sports bikes usually have very high seat height and a hunched over seating position. Not good to learn on or commuting.

I would look at bikes like the Honda CB 250 or Yamaha Virago 250. They are good, cheap and reliable bikes that can be had for well under your spending limit. They are more powerful than a Grom and will hold highway speeds and have a low seat height. The CB400, while a great bike, would be a bit big. My wife is 166cm and got her to sit on my CB400 last night and she could barely touch the ground.

Thank you for that detailed response!

  • Check out netrider.net.au as well seen a few posts regarding this dilemma.

  • Have you sat on a Ninja 300?
My brother in law has one and it feels like it's quite a low bike. I love the look of the grom personally, but I just think the Ninja would be a far more practical bike.
Significantly lower than my Superduke which is nice and high (I'm 193cm).

Put your data in here. Also depends on how long your legs are.
