Best Value Restaurant for Birthday Meet up in Sydney

So since this a bargain forum. I'm hoping that someone can recommend me a good restaurant with good atmosphere that have a really good food and not too expensive.

I wish to offer to pay all my friends food on my birthday.

Budget around $150 for 6 people. Lower even better :p

I prefer Chinese or Thailand restaurant. But wouldn't mind for a really good value western restaurant.

My first preference for a restaurant is always the taste. But since this a special ocassion then i need a decent looks and place for it.

  • I'm sure there are loads of great restaurants in Sydney but the ones listed below were my favourites (but I've probably visited 0.001% of Sydney's places to eat).

http://www.thespiceroom.com.au (crap views but interesting decor and superb food)

http://www.fortunevillage.com.au (Best Chinese food I've ever had)

    • Interesting recommendation. I'm just wondering if the dishes have a good portion to share or not. I'm thinking to share 4-5 different dishes for 6 people.

      • Have a look at their websites and take it from there. All I can recommend is that each place sells awesome food at reasonable prices and they all sell food from different regions - Thailand, China, Middle East and India.

  • I don't know anywhere to recommend (my standards are low) but you can often get deals on Groupon/Scoopon that would get you like 40%-60% off. My experience has been hit-and-miss though, mostly due to the fine print. Restrictions on when you can use the coupon, restrictions on substitutions, finding out your portions are not the same as the dishes ordered separately (hence the dirt cheap price). You might get lucky with a well-reviewed place pooping up.

    • Oh yeah.. Almost forget that.. Looks i'll be looking for one soon

  • Lynn Shanghai - they do a $28.8 pp banquet menu

New Shanghai - quite a few locations, nice decor

Home Thai - buzzing place, cheaper version of Chat Thai

    • All are too expensive for the OP I think

      • That's true for a reason.. But i can do that if the dishes have a large portion to share..

    • Home thai is one of my favourite thai restaurant.. But the restaurant feel too small and too crowded

  • +1

    McDonald's family restaurants

    • No fast food famous chain.. They probably already eat that too often :p

      • No fast food

The service at McDonald's Punchbowl is pretty slow…

  • Ikea.
    Meatball are yummy

    • Yeah it's yummy but not what i'm thinking for.. But thanks

  • Can't think of any decent place that would be $25 pp or under….

  • buffet..
the garden buffet at the star casino pyrmont (expensive)
    or
    http://www.starbuffet.com.au/locations/ (cheap esp weekends lunch)

    they are not related

  • +4

Sydney is a very big place

A cheap restaurant in Campbelltown is no bargain if you live at Manly.

OP you need to give some more details if you want help here.

  • Kaffir Lime on Willoughby Rd is nice. Mains are approx $22-28, entrees $12. A decent dinner with entrees, mains, desserts and drinks for 4 costs on average $110-120. You could probably get a better price if you ordered the set menu. The atmosphere is lovely (dimly lit, candles on tables) the table service is decent (albeit a tad slow at times), and the food is great (portions are reasonably large and well presented).
