Increased Latency on SEA Servers (PUBG/Dota)

About 2 weeks ago, I noticed I was getting much higher latency on SEA servers (Singapore mainly) on PUBG and Dota.

Prior to that, the latency to SEA servers was approximately 100ms, however now it is about 250+ms. However the latency on Oceania servers did not change (consistent 50+ms).

My ISP is Internode.

Does anyone have this problem as well?

  • Pretty sure Internode have internet profiles that you can change online to adjust speed/latency.

They range from Max Speed to Max Stability (Low Latency)

You should log into your Internode account and try changing it.

    Cheers

    Edit: Here you go

    • Awesome! I'll check it out :)

  • An undersea cable was cut resulting in 300ms latency.

Best to use US servers for FPP (I'm assuming that's why you want the Asian servers)

    • I've found even US has even got worse. Ping still seems the same, but I feel like there's way more packet loss. Guessing the routing around the broken cables is suffering from congestion.

  • +2

As above cable was damaged predicted ETA for the fix was the 13th i think from memory, i can double check tomorrow, not logging back into work servers again today.

We have a major service running through there and it's slowing down a number of our systems at work.

We get regular updates so i'll share any revised schedule if it helps.

Any schedule i get will be fairly accurate

    • That would be brilliant, thanks for the info toons :)

  • It all kinda got worse guys Singapore link is scheduled but they found another 3 breaks

    4 cables effected are

ASE- (Asia submarine-cable express) Intra Asia
    TGA- (Intra Asia) Intra Asia
AAG- (Asia American Gateway) Asia - US (California)
    SMW- (3SEA-ME-WE3) Perth To singapore

Effectively ISP's are now redirecting traffic through US to get into Asia

so if i trace route from here to Indonesia I'm heading to Sydney,California,Hawaii,Guam,Indonesia

Each route can be different as they shift availability

I won't get a new schedule till Friday,

You can use this to find out who owns the cable/s and perhaps get schedules through the companies direct.

I can't do much more right now @work

    • Damn that sucks…It's good to have this information though, at least we know what the problem is. Looking forward to more updates

      • I noticed i hadn't put month above the fix is 13th October not today :-(

The other 3 cables make sense of Enceladus94 comments above too not only a lot of traffic re-routing but more damaged cables.

I'm interested to see the slowdown on Sat and Sunday night with F1 in town broadcasting to millions around the world plus the usage the teams themselves directly to the European headquarters that are relying on real time data, for the engineers to crunch.

Open up the map though it's quite interesting to see what subsea connections we have globally

SMW3 Perth Singapore actually goes all the way through to Europe. if you click on the line it shows you all the points or cities where it has a connection.
