Shoe Recommendations for Long Standing Jobs

Hi everyone. I usually have to stand for over 12 hours a day and feels like I must take care of my feet. So I came up with some options listed below:

Camper Pelotas

Nike Air Max Flyknit

New Balance 574 Sport

Basically I am in need of comfortable shoes to wear during the day. Happy to hear your experiences about those above if any or other brands, models that you can recommend.

Thanks a lot.

  • Campers if you like the feel of them.

I really enjoy camper shoes. Imo they are 1000% better looking than the other 2 choices you presented also.

Campers better looking than Air Max. Lmao, what are you smoking?

Depends how far "west" you are working…

EDIT: I have a set of campers beetles and AM moderns, ultras, 90s and flynits… The campers look better. Unless you are planning on gaining street cred in Penrith or something… the campers are better.

OP: I own a few pairs of Air Max's and they're by far the most comfortable shoes I've had. Would definitely recommend.

Look into Skechers, not the 'coolest' brand I know but they have some styles that can pass off as normal sneakers / boots / shoes.

Their memory foam soles are super comfy.

A lot of the nurses I know swear by Skechers.

Any half decent hiking shoes with scholl work insoles. Tried A lot of things over the yrs this works best for me but definitely no running shoes the soles don't seem thick enough.

What type of work do you do though?

I'm pretty much on my feet all day long and I wear DC/Globe/Adidas shoes and my feet are pretty much fine afterwards. The only time my feet hurt from any of these shoes are when they're getting old so they're chucked out and replaced and I'm back to normal. I work in education with young children so I'm always on the go.

I don't think any recommendations are made but just happened to come across this study today which might interest you

I can walk comfortably all day in my Docs, Corcorans and Palladiums.

My partner is a nurse and recommended these

    http://www.theathletesfoot.com.au/brooks-dyad-walker-black
Although they are womens shoes, im sure they have a male equivalent

    • Which ones does she prefer? I'm thinking of getting either of these

      • She likes the look of the Brooks better but would recommend the Ascents. They both got the tick of approval from her podiatrist though

These from Redback are very comfortable, and designed for people on their feet all day. Australian too. Not the cheapest though.

Redback offers leather nonslip shoes for the police, fire, EMT, auto, restaurant and hospitality industries. These leather work shoes offer a low profile look with the protection and support of a boot. Comfortable anatomic soles prevent foot strain when you're on your feet all day, while the nonslip outer sole helps prevent slipping in hazardous situations.

I've got a long standing job but mainly involves sitting at a desk so can't really help.

    Blundstone 997's….

  • Whatever you do, make sure you get a good fit. You may or may not need more arch support, or a wider fit, or something that helps against pronation, or a combination…..

My wife (nurse) wears new balance at work - but they suit her feet.

    • Oh, I don't do anywhere near as much standing or walking in my job, but quite like Brooks, New Balance, and Asics 'walking shoes' (sometimes sold in the cross training category). Can get in black leather, and don't scream 'runner' in dayglow orange with green stripes….

  • +1 for sketchers. I've got them in my feet right now and own 4 different styles. The memory foam is my fave. Very lightweight and so comfortable.

I had a similar job once. Watch out. After 3 months on standing everyday on concrete i started getting electric shocks shooting up the back of my heels
It's not healthy. Make a request to HR to put down strain relief matting

Shoes are important, but not as important as socks. Go out, get the super thick explorer socks. They helped me soooo much
Ebay has these things http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/3-4-ORTHOTIC-INSOLES-HEEL-ARCH-SU… for $5

    • Do you also recommend using super thick socks along with these insoles?

      • +1

My feet are f**ked, so I use everything. Thick socks are the number one improvement to my feet, after spending $1000 on podiatrist appointments, getting custom cast orthodics, wearing $200 runners all the time with the $20 special thin socks. I used to hate thick socks because of how dorky they look, but they do wonders

        • Thank you sir. Are they called work socks or any other specific brand or place that you can recommend me to shop?

        • +1

          @baldur:
Its up to personal taste really. Woolworths has the explorer ones for $7 a pair, and thats when they're on special, so they're not cheap. You'll know them when you see them, they are sold as tradie socks, and they have garish colors. Try one, and if the help buy more I guess

The main problem is when to renew them. The old holeproof ones supposedly lasted a decade, but with these ones they are noticably thinner after just 3 months. Now it's worth it to buy new socks every 3 months just to escape foot pain, but I don't like those numbers, so I'm still working on that one.

It's a very individual thing. I quite like New Balances as they're great for my feet. I have Skechers at the moment but they cause a lot more foot pain for me than my 574s did.

I have had plantar fasciitis for a year and a half so i have tried just about every type of cushioned trainer! I think the Nike Airs are THE most comfortable of all i have tried. Followed by Ascis gels (but most of them are ugly, especially for work: some of the tiger/asics gel cross models are better looking!). After that are the foam options. I have found some New Balance models very comfy but not others, depends on the degree of cushioning. (Not tried the 574s but have tried similar models, really good). Puma also have some good cushioned options with foam. The other thing is arch support, and i use half-orthotics from the chemist to take care of that. And i always size up no matter what brand of running style shoes, or i get banged toes. Cushioning + arch support + room for toes seems to be my recipe for comfort. There are always lots of good New Balance discounts on here, BTW.

  • I know it probabaly sounds like the worst suggestion ever but I'm in hospitality and 10-12 hr days were normal for me and I literally wore $5 canvas shoes from Kmart and they were so comfortable, never had sore feet.

A few others i worked with wore vans, converse or sketchers(a lot of nurses where them )
