Getting the best Lenovo deals

Hi all,

I thought I would share some feedback on lenovo laptops.

I have been looking to get a new laptop since my last OZBargain laptop broke down. For those who remember Horize, my hinges finally gave up.

To cut a long story short, the Lenovo brand looks pretty good to me, the reviews on laptop websites seem to be very positive and the specs plus prices are competitive. I chose a 14' monitor for the size and weight so the the deal I found was the Thinkpad Carbon X1 Gen5 with 256gb and Windows Pro.

The Lenovo Website price was $1750 'on sale' but I was up sold on the phone to include the IR camera and so the total cost was going to be $1792 including gst.

During the call I advised I could get $250 back from the current AMEX card deal plus 7% off from cash rewards and 10% gst refund as my girlfriend is going overseas in 3 weeks. Thus the final price would out to around $1350.

But..the phone sales guy advised he could beat this website price and offered me the laptop for $1567 including gst. Therefore I still received my AMEX $250 rebate (email has just come through) and gst rebate will take the final price down to $1160.30.

I hope this helps everyone on OZBargains get the bargains they deserve at Lenovo.

cheers.

Are you sure you got that right? The phone sales guys price was $1567+GST which means the total that you up front is $1723.70.
The website price of $1792 already includes GST so that is what you pay up front

You dont get cashrewards back on the phone sale so the effective price after GST refund and Amex for the phone sale is
    $1723.70-$156.70(GST)-$250(AMEX) = $1317.00

If you bought it through the website, the effect price after GST refund, Amex and cashrewards discounts would be
    $1792-$162.91(GST)-$250(AMEX)-$125.44(7% Cashrewards) = $1252.44

  • correction… gst was included in the deal for $1567.

    Sorry for the confusion.

My post was designed to help anyone who is waiting for a Lenovo deal to just ring Lenovo and see what price the telephone sales people can offer them. I was very happy with my discount.

    • Post the receipt to make it easier for others to get the deal please.

    • I read your post last night, tried my luck at the Lenovo chat window. Sadly the couldn't offer any discounts.

  • @OP: Isn't the Amex credit only applicable to online sales? How did you process it?

  • After about two weeks of ringing them back and forth. My order finally got put through.

My one is i5, 16gb, 512SSD plus 3 years next business day warranty.

$1878 in total. No cash back or Amex rebate.

    • How did you negotiate? Did you refer the thread/ deal offered previously?

      • I used the auapi site.
        It had better deal.

        http://www3.lenovo.com/au/en/auapi/laptops/thinkpad/thinkpad-x/X1-Carbon-5th-Generation/p/22TP2TXX15G?menu-id=X1_Carbon_(5th_Gen)
Currently, the starting price is $1579.

        • Thanks for the link! I tried creating the same configuration but i seem to end up @ $2265

Is it possible Lenovo jacked up the prices?

          Again thanks for your help

  • Sorry, I was away.

In response to the questions above,..I just rang the sales team at lenovo Australia and told them about the cash rewards discount and was "nice" to the sales guy. Be polite and see what the can do.

I explained how I could reduce the price down through all the special deals and the sales guy confirmed I would also get the AMEX offer. I didn't really believe him about AMEX working because the conditions says it is for internet only but I received an AMEX pop up on my phone within 10 minutes after the purchase.

I think the sales team might get a sales quota or need to do a few deals each month as part of their job. Not sure but my sales guy was super helpful and boasted he would be able to beat the Cashrewards deal. N.B. he gently tried to up sell some stuff but i just advised i was on a tight budget and couldn't afford them.

The laptop arrived this morning by courier and i have been busy loading software on it. I love this machine, the keyboard is the best, the weight is just perfect and the screen size / quality is top notch. I'm very happy with my purchase.

The gf takes it overseas next week for my gst rebate.
