Tyres and Battery Advice

Hi, I am needing new tyres for our people mover - a 2013 Chrysler Grand Voyager, and a battery for my 2010 Volkswagen GTI.

Can anyone recommend what replacement tyres to get? The car does about 15,000 KM per year, on mostly metro roads, with the occasional country trip (Perth to Denmark/Albany mostly).

Also a battery for the hatchback. Just go to Battery World or RAC?

Thanks!

    Perth to Denmark

do you have a boat too?

  • For the battery find the size and buy online. Typically cheaper

  • i recently replaced my tyres. I got them from ebay from a wrecker. tyres and hubs. the car they came from had only done 5000kms.

the hubs were from a newer model (2016) of my own car(2013).

    cost me $500.

new tyres alone would have cost >$900

had my car serviced a week later and they did a wheel balance thing.

had to get a new battery as well as the old one was starting to die. repco had 20% off sale.

Tyres and RIMS. Hubs are the bit on the car that spins around that you bolt the rims to.

      • thanks. I always get the 2 mixed up

I bought a set of tyres online today from Tyroola. Less than half the supposed RRP and free delivery. I'll get my usual mechanic to fit for ~$20 a wheel. First time I've tried this method but should be fine and gets me brand name tyres for not much more that the Chinese stuff my mechanic would normally fit. The ones I bought had plenty of good reviews in various sites.

I dunno enough about tyres to recommend specifics but it's worth punching in your tyre size on the website and see what's available for your budget.

RAC will cost ~50% more for equivalent battery you'll get from battery shop.

  • Michelin Latitude tyres and a Century battery.
They are not the cheapest but if you want a bit of quality and not junk that is what I would go for.

  • You should never skimp out on tyres and brake pads. No need to get high performance tyres but stay away from cheap and nasty Chinese or Korean tyres. On my old car I ran with Blue Streaks; although they were somewhat grippy and allowed me to drive like a bat out of hell, they wore out heaps fast so I didn't save any money compared to buying a more expensive tyre. I'm currently running Bridgestone tyres on my current car and I've done more kms on them than I've ever done with any set of tyres before.

  • If the battery isn't too urgent, wait for supercheap auto to have a sale and buy it at 10, 15 20% off (they can even install it for a small fee if that's not in your skillset).

Order online to claim your Cashrewards and pick up in store.

    • Thanks for the tip re order online and pick up in store. Can install myself and leave the old one at a Battery World recycling bin.

      • I'd say so - Supercheap take used oil - probably do batteries as well.

Surely being on ozbargain since 2010 you'd have enough eneloops you could tape together into a car battery.

  • Call around for Neutonpower batteries. Its what mechanics use, so it must be great value.
Costco is good for tyres I've heard

    • Thanks outlander - in WA so no nearby Costco
