Surveillance System Recommendations

Hi everyone,

I am currently a victim of malicious damage to my property and I need some help with installing or recommending me a surveillance system.

I am hoping to get it all setup within the next few days. Anyone kind enough to point me in the right direction, what gear to get, systems etc. I am handy with basic wiring etc but I am not an electrician so perhaps a wireless system might be the go?

    Netgear Arlo for wireless

    Hikvision for wired (poe).

    The ozbargain in me would love to get a cheap xiaomi setup but I can't wait for delivery overseas. So I might look into getting Arlo? locally and see what I can do.

    They have been coming every night and destroying our property.

    It's rather concerning.

        We have and they haven't done anything about it. They said an officer will be assigned the case in a few weeks.

        The issue is, these scums are coming every night (11pm onwards when we are asleep).

          Even if you have video evidence, you or cops can't really do much unless it is a serious offence.
          Your best option would be to do things which deter them such as;
          Leave the light on, pretend someone is up or installing a fake camera would do to.
          Or fake dog barking on movement detection? lol

      Xiaomi will be no good if you need this setup outdoors.

    I am using the presence app and have set up old iphones/ipads as cameras (with motion detection).

    App is free and allows cloud storage and remote monitoring. Payment is required if you want videos in HD and videos
    longer than the 1 minute limit (going from memory here).

    Suits my needs.

    I paired these up with $8 mini phone flexi tripods from Kmart.

    Has geofencing so auto turns on when I go to work and off when I get home, you can turn the geofencing off though.

    It does work with android my I have had better luck with iphone, although the android gave a better picture.

    Arlo Pro doesn't record continuously.

    Hmmm, might have to consider non wireless uniden or swann cameras.
