Dry Rubs/Seasoning for BBQ Meats

Looking for an all purpose rub to apply on poultry, pork and beef. Does anyone know of a good value and tasty rub?

Salt, pepper, brown sugar, paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, and chilli/cayenne powder (if you want it spicy).

    • That is exactly what I use, and it's delish.

I'd probably recommend you avoid buying an all-purpose rub. They're more expensive and you might get a bit bored eating the same spices every time. If you just buy a good mix of herb and spices then you can mix and match to create your own flavours, you really can't go wrong with a basic list of spices like - mixed herbs, paprika, chilli, cumin, garlic powder, lemon pepper, ground coriander, salt and pepper. Add real crushed garlic and olive oil and you can create something pretty great.

    • Where would be you go to buy these ingredients in bulk?

      • Supermarkets normally aren't too expensive. You can try asian grocery stores too, they stock a lot of spices at good prices, Aldi have occasional spice collections on sale sometimes as well. You don't need to use a lot of spice on meat so a little can go a long way.

  • I would recommend the Herbies Cajun Spice mix, it is not the cheapest but it is delicious and you don't need much to make the dish really tasty. I use it with Chicken and marinade it for a couple of hours with a bit of rum and about a teaspoon of the cajun spice mix. You can often get it from Pickadeli at South Melbourne market.
