Petrol Station Displaying 0.00 on The Board outside

Hi all,

I drove past my local Woolies/Caltex station last night. The price of e10(the only one, other types were around $1.20) on the big price board outside says $0.00. This is obviously a price error or some fault with the price board. I noticed there is a queue of cars lining up to fill up. I was tempted myself but decided the queue was too long to be wasting my time if the $0.00 price is not honoured. The $0.00 price was up for a while, because I went to the shops and it was still showing $0.00 on my way back.

Questions:

  1. Would you have lined up to see if you can get free fuel?

  2. Would the petrol station need to honour the price on the board? I guess that is my FOMO talking.

    It wouldn't be free.

Just fill up and drive off. Let them report you to the cops for filling up with the cheapest fuel you have ever seen. :D

They're probably out of stock. But if you could find somewhere that price matches… 🤔

I was thinking price beat, but 5% of $0.00 is $0.00

Doesn't this mean they are out of petrol?

    • Usually yes.

      • +2

        Not surprising given the price!

  • +3

Usually indicates they are waiting on a fuel delivery ……. the tide is out !!

    • Ok, that makes sense. No way the fuel truck is going to make it into the station with the queue though.

      Get a raincheck.

They probably have no E10 Fuel

price was 999.9 and then it went up by another 0.1 = they clocked it

Yes, free fuel..Of course..lol Seriously (people think that)?!

  • went past a place the other day and it was 888.88

sounds like you got a great deal

      Lucky fuel.

Sound like a lucky number. Was it chinese new year?

0.00 always indicates they're out of that fuel, at every station across Australia. A friend works at a servo and he always has smart ass customers walk in with the joke heard a million times before 'oh mate, you're giving away free fuel, haw haw!'

    • Didn't know that. Thanks for the info.

hahahaha if you think this means 'free' fuel, then you're so so so wrong!!

$0.00 means no fuel left for that product. But sure, go ahead and try to fill up for 'free'. Drive off after filling, no payment needed.

It is free, but they have none to sell. You spend nothing you get nothing. Everybody loses.

    • Surely everyone just hangs onto their shit?

  • As others have said, $0.00 is out of stock basically. But I wonder why petrol stations choose to use 0.00 to represent out of fuel, as opposed to using something like 999.9?

      Bait advertising.

    So dumb

  • Would the petrol station need to honour the price on the board?

No. The price displayed on the board is an invitation. There is also a price at the pump. If that is the same as the one the board, then that would be a different matter.

    • The price displayed on the board is an invitation.

Oooh we got a law student over here!
