  • I am also in the same boat. Would love to hear people's opinions about these two. I've also been looking at the Asus UX430UQ. With all the ebay sales, it comes at a pretty good price.

  • both are great machines and can't go wrong.

    x1 has a bigger screen 14'.

see my post on how to save $$.

  • I recently bought X1 Gen5 with i5-7300U, 16Gb RAM and 128Gb SSD.
I have not tried use the notebook until the battery is completely flat, but so far I manage to use this machine for 9 hours continuously, and still have minimum 50% battery left.
I don't watch video, work mainly using web browser or powershell (command line)

  • Gotta give my vote to X1 because that's one I have…I have the Yoga one. I can usually get 12 hours of it, alternating between some Python,R,web-browsing and writing on Word.

  • This won't directly address your question but I suppose it has some tangential information. I was in the same boat but I was comparing a Gen4 carbon and the respective XPS 13 of that gen.

I liked the dimensions of the the xps. Especially how well it fits on airplane tray tables. Build quality was also top notch.

Eventually bought the Carbon, not because it was essentially better, but because I subjectively better liked the keyboard and trackpad on the carbon. Also, while the aluminum body of the XPS is definitely sexy, I felt I'd have better success keeping the carbon looking good in the long run.

  • OP, where do you get x1 carbon at $1480? Thx

  • Ended up going with the X1 Carbon. Light and good keyboard in comparison to XPS13

  • But xps 13 is going to be sold here very soon with gen 8 processor (already availabe in usa).
Nevetherless I personally still just ordered carbon wqhd. Going to stare at screen not at processor for the next ~5 years.
