You should have linked that in the first place then, I was commenting on your original comparison.

        • Just to add to this, the ovo rep I spoke to said they don't have the flexibility to negotiate with their plans. I used to be with ovo but then saw the optus deal. Needless to say, I ended up switching to optus $70 for 100gb.

    • I think thats 12months contract thou, this deal is a little more non-commital

Minimum monthly cost is $100 / 30 days

Month to Month on optus though, $70 will net you 100GB

If you don't want disappointment , check Optus 4G speed in your area before getting this. I got a OVO sim when they announced their 50GB plan. It was very good, 25Mbps, pretty well all the time.
When this came out a I decided to get a Optus SIM just to check speeds. Now the best is around 10Mbps early mornings, before 6AM, but during late afternoon and evening peak time it is completely Fubar. Last Speed before running out of data was Ping 171 Download 0.21Mbps and upload 1.5Mbps.

It was a slow cascade downwards in speed.
It think Optus 4G big plans are starting heavily impact some areas.

    Why would you buy this?

      To make OVO shareholders happy.

Optus $70 for 100GB is better value. If you're worried about excess data charges, you could use 90GB and then play it safe by removing the sim after that. That way you're still paying $30 less for 20-30GB more.

I have had both Optus and OVO 4G Plus, I found the speeds comparable at the places where I travel to which are mostly country areas.

When I switched to OVO it was because I had been hit twice in 2 months with Optus' ridiculous $10/GB "excess without warning" for going a few MB over. OVO charge the same for excess by the way, but you have a choice with them.

I think you have to be pretty annoyed with Optus' 48h lag in data usage updates to go with OVO over Optus. I thought I was pretty annoyed and tried to upgrade from my OVO 70GB plan to the 100GB plan, but just got stuffed around by OVO. As of yesterday I was advised this regarding upgrading…

"We will have the upgrade available in a few weeks :)"

"Unfortunately that would not be possible until we have our backend fully sorted (we currently cannot but should be able to in the next few weeks) :)"

"you will need to order a new service from ovo.com.au and cancel your current to do that :)"

They ultimately agreed that if I have to order a new sim I may as well get one from Optus at this point in time.

OVO claim to have better customer support than Optus, I have not experienced this so far.

With the value for money Optus are currently offering and the bigger plans that mean I am less likely to accidentally hit the excess it's back to Optus for me. They are annoying but at least they are consistent, I get a different answer from each OVO support person I talk to.
