Best Power Plug Travel Adaptors?

Hi everyone,

Travelling overseas soon and just wondering what people think the best power plug travel adaptors are please?

Will need from Type I (here) to Type C & G (UK & Europe) at least but imagine most are more universal anyway.
Don't mind if they have USB ports or not. Looking for ones that are compact, safe, reliable, versatile and of course, good value.

I like the look of Travel Inspira's ones.
And maybe Skross(they seem to have ground)

Thanks

  • Get the cheapest with an earth and dont forget to bring a 4 or 6 way powrrboard. You already have all the USB chargers you need.

I bought a little travel board from Aldi that's just been awesome - has the three major plugs that seem to plug into everything worldwide plus 4 usb slots and three Australian powerpoints. Think it was about $20 with a case - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/315070

I bought a trio of plug adaptors (AU, US, Europe), quite light, from eBay for a couple of bucks and plug my power adaptor into the appropriate one. Depending on where I'm going, I need 0 to 3 of them.

  • Think carefully about what you'll be using it for: these days almost everything you need to charge will use USB, except maybe a laptop or fancy/old camera battery.

    I use:

    • One or two cheap AU plug to US outlet adapters (for laptop or old camera etc) (~$2)
    • For all you phones, tablets, etc, a nice multicharger with QuickCharge like this Tronsmart (~$30)
    • A car charger with 2 Quickcharge ports (~$20)

The Quickcharge turned out to be extremely important on our US holiday. We were able to maximise our time doing stuff.

That multicharger (and you laptops, most likely) support US voltage and use standard 2-pin or 3-pin appliance power cables that can just be swapped for cheap US ones (buy from ebay or whatever before you go). So I actually bought the multi-charger with US cable on amazon (free Prime trial) for very cheap and had it delivered to our first hotel. When I got home I used an old CD player cable, worked fine.

  • I bought a cheap universal adapter from a chinese site, the same as the one linked below, but I only paid around $10.00
I have been using it non-stop at home to charge everything (laptop, phones, even run a lava lamp through it all day), to make sure it doesn't get ridiculously hot etc.

Whatever you decide, make sure you test it at home for a period before taking it away with you.

  • would save you a lot of money if you just buy one travel adapter and bring a long a power strip or a power cube :)

    • This.

Just back from 3wks in Europe. Took 3x cheap converter plugs (with Earth socket) (1 for bathroom + 2 for each side of bed), plus 2x Aus powerboards (the longer the cable, the better - never know how close the nearest free socket will be). Everything gets covered easily.
Another tip is to bring a USB extension cable or 2, again just in case your phone charger etc. is just out of reach.

Only issue was Italy also uses this socket as well as standard European socket (…usually more of Italian ones & rarely a European!!). A €2.50 converter from a supermarket fixed that, so I could use my Aus>EU converter.
