    Yes, I said FREE!

And you said $10. Which one am I to believe? One of them is a lie.

Well, it is technically free, since you're not paying for it. You might have to spend $10 to get it, but that $10 is technically only covering the cost of the stuff you buy, and not the bar. Both statements can coexist, and it's not like it's confusing either.

btw, why is it tagged with "apparel"?

"Well, it is technically free, since you’re not paying for it."

What? It's being subsidised by the purchase that you make. There is nothing free about it.

        Definition of free:

"Not affected or restricted by a given condition or circumstance"

        • lazed - first time ive heard such a definition of free.

and like all words, its context adds meaning.

buy one get one free? … not free?

    • I just copied and pasted the text from the website, which I guess originated from Darrell Lea's marketing material.

I see where you're coming from. But "Spend $10, get a chocolate bar" doesn't have quite as nice ring to it."

  • mm free chocolate

    • mm free bar

  • While their chocolate is nice, if you are willing to pay their crazy chocolate prices then I doubt you care that much about a free bar..

    • For a specialty chocolate store, it is reasonably priced. Chocolate Box, Koko Black etc. are pricier, though some may see that as justified.

  • What a horrible "bargain". I'd rather not waste 10$ on chocolate to get a free 3$ bar.

      Bliind,

What a horrible “bargain”. I’d rather not waste 10$ on chocolate to get a free 3$ bar.

Again, it's your opinion and I respect that. But the negative is not justified. Vote revoked.

      Please see my comment here.

      • My negative voting is no different than people leaving stupid comments and voting positive on them. Why even have a negative voting option if you’re going to cry every time someone makes a negative comment about a deal. Just because it’s a bargain or freebie doesn’t mean people should go out of their way to get it.

Since you’re placing negative votes under such strict guidelines why don’t you do the same for positive voting? Until you do I will continue to vote negatively on deals which I think are not worth it, and which no one should purchase.

“That is your opinion, and it’s fine as a comment. However this does not justify your negative vote.”

If someone posted “hey I like these, THUMBS UP!” That is the exact same thing except you’re not going to revoke their comment. Looks like you’re pretty one sided here. How about we get some mods that aren’t completely one sided.

        • My negative voting is no different than people leaving stupid comments and voting positive on them.

Yes it is. Your negative vote may cause the OP to be banned and the deal disappearing completely from view for members that may benefit from the deal. Not to mention that most members that submit deals (aside from reps) do not benefit anything from sharing them here, so I would say they have genuine intentions to share deals with our community. Unless something is really seriously wrong with a deal, they shouldn't be penalised for it.

Why even have a negative voting option if you’re going to cry every time someone makes a negative comment about a deal.

Unlike other forum voting, negative votes here are essentially a warning. e.g., if something is seriously wrong with the product/service posted. Hence why a justification (normally backed up by a source) on the negative vote is required. Personal opinions are not reasons to vote negative. Some other reasons and more examples are explained in the voting guidelines above.

Since you’re placing negative votes under such strict guidelines why don’t you do the same for positive voting?

Positive voting gives an indication on how popular a deal is. It's quite simple really:

          like the deal/think it's a bargain = +ve
          don't like deal/don't think it's a bargain = don't vote
          unsure/sitting on the fence = don't vote

If you have been around long enough, you'll realise that deals without high positive vote count do not normally make it to the main page for most members. This alone will cause unpopular deals to be buried in the deep space of OzBargain over time, but at the same time still accessible for those who specifically look for them.

And if you find members here are too generous with their positive votes, you can control the voting threshold on the main page by changing your preference.

Until you do I will continue to vote negatively on deals which I think are not worth it, and which no one should purchase.

Sure, if your negative votes meet our guidelines. Otherwise, they will most likely get revoked.

If someone posted “hey I like these, THUMBS UP!” That is the exact same thing except you’re not going to revoke their comment. Looks like you’re pretty one sided here. How about we get some mods that aren’t completely one sided.

One sided in what way? Is there a reason why their comment should be removed for the same reason I don't see why your comment should be removed? Only your negative vote was revoked. You're more than welcome to comment on the deal as you see fit, but the voting needs to follow the site rules. And no, I don't make the rules.

Rather than hijacking this thread with discussion on voting, please post any replies here. If you have any suggestions on any improvements on the current voting system, feel free to voice it out there.
