The Sony because it's Sony which is arguably best in the business these days.

Not the Samsung cos screw their overpriced sub-par junk.

But mostly the Sony because it actually has HDR while the Sammy doesnt'.

If you can hang on till Boxing Day, don't waste your time buying these entry level TV's whilst you can get a mid-level for the same price.

Most of these TV's (apart from the higher level models) have HDR10 (8 Bit + FRC) and not "Native - 10 Bit panel"

LG specifies HDR10 & Native HDR10 on their TV catalogue.

    Example from 2016:

    Samsung KS8000 55" - RRP $2495, $1950 cash through negotiations.
    Boxing day - $1495

Although discontinued, this was a very good TV for the price. Please read reviews.

The catch is you have to be quick to buy as they go very fast.

    Wait till Boxing Day IMO.

    Cheers

    • I may get it November time same time as xbox x you say get it December time

  • I would recommend the Sony.

But for low priced units I would get the Hisense N7 range, maybe stretch for a 65" version when on sale.

    • maximum size 55

  • I bought a sony uhd tv in 2015 kd-55x8500c tv and it was fine watching free to air foxtel etc but in a darkened room watching blu rays it suffered from light bleed it got so annoying that i got rid of it and bought a lg oled tv much better more expensive though just google the models and see if they have a review edge lit lcd tvs are known to have light bleed problems !!

    • So you can see they don't know shit, cos they recommend a non-HDR TV in 2017 when you are paying $1.5K.

      • these are hdr

        • The 3rd on list, Samsung, is not.

  • I've said it in another thread, but I'll say it again here… I've made the mistake of buying an entry level HDR TV. They don't have good HDR performance. These TVs use 8bit panels, and while it does use temporal dithering to supposedly achieve 10 bit colour, I could hardly tell any difference on the entry level TVs. They are also not bright enough, dark enough, nor offer the contrast-ratios needed to properly support HDR. That's just how it is.

Seriously, save up a bit longer and pick up an LG 55" B6 or C7 OLED (which are around $2500 these days) - this would be my recommendation. Or get one of the Samsung QLED TVs if you still prefer LCD-based tech, though, personally, I'd go OLED instead as the price of an OLED TV is basically the same as a high end LCD/LED TV these days.

I'm not telling you this to be mean, I'm just talking from my own experience, don't buy something you're going to be disappointed with. I wasted $1400 on an entry level HDR TV thinking now I'm set up for HDR gaming. A couple of months later I ended up buying an OLED - which is what I should have done in the first place…

Here's some simple accounting for you, an OLED would be around a $1000 more than what you're looking at, this sounds like a lot, but when you consider you'll be using it for at least 3 years, it's only a dollar a day extra for something that will deliver the experience you're expecting to get.

    • Do you mind me asking you what model was your entry level TV and when did you buy it? 2016?

At the time of your purchase, what was the price of the OLED and what model did you buy C7?

The reason I am asking you, is that the OLED a little while ago was ridiculously priced ~ $4K for a 55"

      Cheers
