AmEx Travel Credit - Can I use it then cancel the card to avoid the annual fees?

I got the explorer card last year and used the Travel Credit.

Now i have got it again, can i now use it and then cancel the card, will I still get charge for annual fees?

The fee is each year, so how could you avoid that and get the yearly travel credit?

It's supposed to renew with the annual fee. You'll probably get the fee on your next statement…
