PS4 HDMI Repair Issue - Global Consoles

Hi all,
My PS4 recently began not being able to produce a clear signal on my TV and having a look at the port it was clearly bent and not in the best condition. I chose to get it repaired at Global Consoles in Dandenong. On their website, they quoted $45 for a minor HDMI repair, $65 to replace the HDMI port and $144 for a 'major mainboard repair and HDMI fix'. I rang them up and explained the issues and they said it would be $65, without mentioning the $144 option. After it got sent in, I received an email say ing it was $144. Today, I rang up again today to speak to their technician and he 'explained' the issue. He said that the 'HDMI management microchip' had a fault and would need to be repaired for me to be able to get a display. The other options was for them to send it back for $40 or for them to replace the HDMI port for $65 but they said it wouldn't fix the issue.

If I can guarantee that there is a major fault in the HDMI port such as a broken IC chip (I think) I would be happy to pay the $144 however the fact that they wouldn't tell me the exact fault of the issue makes me think that they are trying to pressure me into paying the full amount.

Has anyone had any experience with this sort of issue or any issues with Global Consoles? Thanks

You could ask them to send you the dead chip so you know they aren't ripping you off. It's not really their fault that they looked into your PS4 and found another problem. It does sound unlucky (and possibly unlikely/fishy)

    • Thanks, a good suggestion but the guy said that everyone are trained by Sony and they can't share how they repair consoles as it is confidential. I'm about to send payment and hoping for the best. Prices to do a similar repair that he said would be done are in excess of $200, it's just that it sounds a little dodgy.

I wonder what Sony would charge for the repair. Seems like a lot.

    • I'm sure it would be more. This is what I was thinking, but all other people including EB games quoted $144 or above.

If the chip was dead you wouldnt be getting any siginal at all, more than likely its just the port needing replacement. However you dunno if they might screw the chip just to spite you for not paying the higher amount. Then they can say see, if only you paid what we asked, then it would be working instead of not working.

    • This is exactly what I was thinking but I definitely don't know enough about it. I don't even think they'd screw the chip, because they're acting so secretive about it. I've just paid them the money, knowing its not worth getting it sent back for $40 and it would cost around the same getting EB games to fix it.

  • Hi. Can I ask what happened with your console in the end? Were you happy with the repair? I am thinking of getting Global Consoles to repair my Xbox- just searching for legit reviews at the moment. Thanks.
