  • Pretty sure an smsf is mandatory

Yeah not just normal super otherwise everyone will just gambling in share market and in 5 years time Australian will have zero super.

  • My super let's me do this, so I am sure others do

    • Can you let me which Super is this?
      Thanks.

  • You can't buy international shares/ETF using your retail super or industry super funds. Need an SMSF if you want to trade in international share market. Why don't you consider investing in ETF listed in ASX?

  • There is no rule against this type of investment.
There may be existing super funds that include the ETF you want as one of their investment options. Moving your super to them would likely be the easiest way to gain access.
An SMSF will cost at least $1000 p.a. to run, plus all the paperwork for the investment side becomes your job. It offeres lots of freedom in investments, but is a bit of a pain compared to just getting a statement once a year.

Finally, the NASDAQ just hit all time highs. Is it prudent to invest a large amount at this time, or better to dollar cost average the investment so that your regular investment buys more when asset prices are low, and less when the asset price is high. Obviously, the best course is to invest large when prices are low, but that isn't now, it is when everyone is saying that investment is finished and come look at (shiny digital coins/cannabis stocks/cobalt miners are this weeks flavours) something else.

  • You asked the same sort of question here Vanguard Growth index fund

Why don't you ask your super fund?

  • Thanks for your replies.
I realised that there was no answer and I am looking to invest in ETF's listed on the NASDAQ which are not available here,my Super fudn does not allow this, Vanguard Growth index fund is the primary one I want to invest in.
