Samsung Galaxy S8+ - Confused by QC/Fast Charge

Hi all. So i come from a pre Quick charge phone prior to my s8+ had a sony xperia z3. Am finding it real difficult to get my head around all the lingo.

Basically im trying to buy a range of after market products to support my new phone. E.g.

One or two power adapters for various physical locations
Car charger
Powerbank

Firstly googling i cant get my head around all the chatter about the s8+ being qc3.0 or qc4.0. They say the chipset 835 is qc4.0 but then in other places it mentions it's actually qc2.0. Further to complicate it some say their adaptive fast charging is qc3.0 equivalent but not qc3.0 due to
Qualcomm royalties ….

So what really should i be getting? Qc2.0 chargers? Qc3.0?

This blitzwolf product says qc 3.0 plus a 2.4a port:

Am trying to get something for the car that can not only fast charge me up but would accomodate the mrs iphone. Is all quick charging ports backward compatible with normal phones charging wise??

When i look at the travel adapter they give in the s8 box the output is 9v at 1.67 a or 5v x 2a. Not knowing electricals i still figure this is below the 18w that qc3.0 (or does qc2.0 use this tpo) needs and therefore how is the included samsung adapters fast charging?

I also looked at today's xiaomi power bank 2 ad on ozb and compared to the xiami pro they mention " fast charging", qc2.0 etc so do i need qc 3.0 to get the most out?

Am also hoping to get a wireless charger. Perhaps a blitzwolf if the samsung qi one is abit pricey. Again is qc3.0 power adapters what i should be getting to fully get the faster wireless charging? Or is qc2.0 all that it needs limitations wise??

Is qc only available over usb c and not micro usb format?

Just feel left behind on the tech side and lost. Would appreciate some guidance on what i should be getting to stay relevant and get the best charging times for my s8??

Also they mention samsungs s8s adaptive charging is smart in preserving battery life and damage by slowing down. Would qc3.0 adapters etc. Lack this tech and in which case is there a case for buying samsung "adaptive charging" adapters instead of qc blitzwolf etc?

    Xperia Z3 is QC 2.0

    • i don't think so? I haven't seen it 'fast charge' at all though, unless it doesn't tell you on the screen? Never seemed fast to me haha

      • I only get "charging rapidly" when I charge through the magnetic port it seems…but I don't have a fast charger (unless the stock one is) so I dunno if it is actually charging QC fast.

  • im pretty sure they are all backwards compatible

    • yeap, but i wanted to get the most out of it so was wondering if the 'adaptive charging' i.e. the s8 is actualy QC3.0 to begin with.

  • I know my Samsung Note 5 goes up to 75% at fast charge and then slows to normal charge after that, so that is probably what Samsung is talking about. I have the Blitzwolf Qi fast wireless charger, and works fine with my Note 5 for fast charge.

I also have a 2 port Tronsmart car charger, one port is fast charge, work beautifully with my Note 5. Even with navigation running and screen on full brightness it still fills up the battery. The other port which is standard 5v 2.4a could easily charge your missus iPhone no probs.

If you put a non fast charge phone on a fast charge wireless charging pad, it would just charge normally. They are backwards compatible like that. I believe the phone dictates the charging rate, not the charger. Hense why my Note 5 can slow down from fast charge to normal charge after 75%.

    • thanks! So to answer the question of a two port car charger, the fast charge QC3.0 coudl be used for my mrs iphone or a non fast charge phone and the 3.0A ones too, so by going these high spec usb ports it would be more 'future proofing' so to speak/ If so I"ll just go with that!

I thought the 'adaptive charging' from samsung was part of the adapter and all, i guess it would be good if it is regulated by the phone though. IT just made it sound like you needed their samsung travel adapter for usb power (what they give you when you buy the s8) to access adaptive charging.

So with the car charger, both port will charge any phone, but only a phone with fast charge capacities will charge at the fast charge rate.

Samsung "adaptive charging" is just marketing speak, its just referring to Qualcomm "Quick Charge", but Qualcomm own the rights to "Quick Charge" so Samsung don't use that. And this way they can make people believe that you need to use one of their chargers to benefit from it. But in reality, any Quick Charge charger will work exactly the same. The phone's built in charging controller dictates what percentage it quick charges up to before switching back to regular charging rates.

I use the Tronsmart 2 port car charger with 1 port being quick charge. I have a 5 port Tronsmart charger at work, 1 port is quick charge which charges my phone, and my workmates have a lightning cable plugged into another port. And I use a Blitzwolf Qi Fast wireless charger on my bedside table to charge my phone at night. All of them charge as fast as the genuine Samsung wall fast charger. Well except the wireless charger, its a little bit slower, but wireless will always have some loss involved, I'm sure the genuine Samsung wireless charger will be a bit slower than the genuine wired charger too.

Ive played this game already and done the research (also own a Galaxy S8) - not much difference between QC3.0 and QC4.0 in terms of charging speed.
Note that QuickCharge does not work at full speeds anyway if you are using the device or GPS, etc
All QuickCharges are backwards compatible too supporting older devices being plugged in.

Just buy this for your car

    • Hey - be keen to know is the s8 actually QC3.0? It hought it was QC3.0 or QC2.0 but it seems from your comment your saying it's actually QC3.0 or QC4.0?

Didn't know using the phone while it's charging means it can't charge at full speeds - interesting! Never thoguht about that.

Saw the car charger link - thanks. Will grab one. Not sure what thePower 3S thing is but i assume the other 3 ports (including that one) are all QC3.0 and backward compatible anyway, so this would be best for getting the most juice out of my fast charging in the car.

Did you have a recommendation for power adapters? Looking for AU plugs in the blitzwolf or if there's a better brand, decent price but mainly to get the best bang for buck fast/adaptive charging -assuming QC3.0 is still the most future proof and bang for buck? Any link recommendation?

Thanks for the other links on learning about Max power, amps etc. it would be great to finally understand all this lingo on watts vs amps vs voltage and how the QC technology works relative to this. MIght make it alot easier in understanding and buying accessories!

    • found this. Has QC3.0 (for my s8+) - just abit confused given i'm new to the lingo, but when or what is the 2.4A port used for normally? Am i right in reading the apple iphones use this 2.4A? Or do most 'non fast charge' or normal/older phones that aren't in the flagship ranges usually usuing 2.4A?

In the past you used to just have phone charges with usb ports (3-6 years ago) - would they have been outputting through a 2.4A usb? Or is that a new thing? I assume I should just get this anyway as QC3.0 is needed for the s8 and other QC phones that'll be coming out, correct? And the 2.4A for the iphone and if someone had say an ipad or normal phone?

Would this pair up with the blitzwolf qi wireless charger for faster wireless charging the s8?

      https://www.banggood.com/BlitzWolf-BW-FWC1-Fast-Charge-Qi-Wi…

fast wireless charging is still slower than fast wired charging, correct?
