Returning Faulty Item to MSY

Bought a monitor from msy on Thursday, from store (A) 1 hour away from where I live (store (A) is 2 min from work). Return item to store (B) as this was closer to where I live 2 min away.

Guy in store (b) ask me where I bought it, I say store (a), takes 15 minutes to test the monitor, and tells me it's a major fault. He then tells he can't exchange it cause they are out of stock. I said fine, I'll get another model,he says he cant, cause he can't refund any money before purchasing the new model. I said your not refunding anything as the new model is more expensive, he still says I can't and need to go to the original store.

Lift your game msy, what's the point having multiple stores for such a simple task. I would never buy anything from your interstate/neighbouring stores from now on as I have in the past.

he still says I can't and need to go to the original store.

he is right. take the faulty item back to where the receipt was issued.

He is only right if those two stores are separate legal entities, and even then, MSY is skirting close to breaching the ACL.

If it were me I would complain to department of fair trading. They should be helping their customers.

op, have a look on the invoice for the abn.

    • I bought a faulty hard drive from MSY in Malvern East and had it replaced in north Melbourne. No issue at all.

to be honest, MSY has been improving a lot in the past 9 years.
MSY has always been known to be a cheap store, with (almost) no service, but nowadays you can even return things if you change your mind..

but I admit, in your case, it's a bit of a pain to drive 1 hour away to return the monitor..
have you tried to call store B and ask before you come there?

      you can even return things

Wow, just as if they're complying with the law! Amazeballs!

      • +5

Change of mind refunds are not compulsory under the law

    • All good, store A called B, pain to go there for simple task, anyways. You'd think they would be better networked in all regards, but I guess not.

So store A is 2mins from work? So it's a piece of cake to just deal with it on Monday @ store A…?

    • Yeah, right.. I don't see what the problem is….

Lunch break, drop the monitor in, get a replacement.. Job done.

    • Couldn't wait til Monday, the monitor I bought was low in stock, they would not hold it for me. Options were running out.

      • So Store A either repairs under warranty (by manufacturer, can be several weeks), or refunds.

  • Took them 3 months to replace a motherboard for me, but at least it was replaced!

  • This is in the nature of why I don't use MSY. Instead of making their website more navigable when I complained about the UX Design, they lectured me on how I should never have suggested it. They have franchised but still cry like a bunch of Mum and Pop Stores, and generally they don't take me seriously as a female tech, automatically assuming I am at fault if there is a hardware issue. You pay more for service, and Mwave and PC Case Gear give better service, even though my feet never enter their store. PC Case gear went through the GTX 970 blues with us 5 years ago, it took 2 lemon gpus for us to go Titan at thier suggestion, and they covered the difference, and ceased selling the craptastic 970 - all by mail and all fuss free.

I use MSY because of price. I go in knowing exactly what I want, and walk out, no service required. That has always been their target market.

      • If I know the exact part number, I'm likely buying old tech and can find it cheaper lightly used.

        • can find it cheaper lightly used.

Wait, items are cheaper when they're used?
          Holy newsflash batman!

        • -2

@Spackbace: Holy crap I browse for new tech and only buy recycled old tech thats my point, MSY does not give me that facility. Story over, bandwagoneers may join the next queue forming.

Though I don't really understand your problem, if you're not stepping foot indoors as you said, I suggest giving the guys at PLE a chance. A very reputable store.

      • +1

PLE even internationally special ordered water cooling gear from Bitspower that they don't even stock. They charged me great prices that would have cost even less than if I bought them from an American site. Of course postage was cheap too all items came to a few kgs, but everything came to about $18 P&H. They kept me updated the whole way with the timeframe. Can't say enough how helpful and friendly the staff were to do an order for me at basically cost price. Always will hold them in the highest regard!

        • Thats my kind of service. Thanks, I do recall doing a FB promo for them years back, I still have the working webcam they sent me, I left FB and forgot their name. Thanks for the reminder.
