Where Do Motor Mechanics Look for Jobs?

Hi guys,

Hoping someone can help me here. I am looking to employ a motor mechanic and a Tyre fitter in my shop in Coolaroo, Victoria. I have advertised on Indeed & Gumtree and going to advertise on Seek on Monday if nothing comes from these two websites.

Where do motor mechanics and Tyre fitters look for jobs? Or should I go through a recruitment agent? I would really appreciate if anyone can point me in the right direction.

Thanks

Have you tried the local paper? Or share on facebook

when we had puppies we tried advertising online and putting up posters but nothing worked until we paid $40 to get in the newspaper, although facebook might also work.

Thanks, I am going to advertise in the local paper as well.

haha, I think it's a good idea anyway. Hopefully people still read newspapers and look at the jobs section.

Surely seek should've been first choice to advertise…

  • I haven't used Indeed & Gumtree to look for jobs since high school…………….

Seek? Surely that should've been your first choice?

  • I would start with word of mouth. Do none of your other staff know suitable candidates?

Maybe ring a couple of employment agencies. Shame you aren't based in NSW my neighbour is a mechanic and struggling to find work!

I always thought Seek was the obvious choice but was advised by a few business owners in the trade that most mechanics like to use Indeed or Gumtree. They might be old school so would give Seek a go on Monday. Thanks everyone for your responses so far. Cheers

As a career mechanic back in Sunny Qld, and having employed staff here and in the NT previously….I scored my 1st from a customer - family member. Others from contacts from the Tool trucks and parts delivery guys. They know all the goss on troop movements.

Also, get the list of Centrelink Job Service Providers, and send an email to all in your area advertising the position. They will vet and send only those appropriate and if a Training or State Govt' Job Assistance crowd is involved, there may well be big $$ incentives to you to employ certain people and certain aged people for your trade.

As I have semi retired, you could ask me, but as you are below the Qld border, you have Buckleys chance.

Thanks mate, that's really helpful. I will get in touch with Centrelink job providers in the area. I don't have too many contacts in the area yet which makes it hard to find people though word of mouth.
      Cheers

I see you are from New Zealand. I think the problem is the skill set. In Australia tire fitters are required to put the wheels back on, not just take them off. Good to see your Gumtree skills are still sharp though.

  • Are you with the VACC? They might be able to assist you. Apparently there is a bit of a shortage of workers in the industry.

    • I have joined them and they do offer quite a bit of support. I have advertised on Seek now and getting a few resumes. Hopefully I will have a good team before opening. Cheers
