PSA for NHL.tv Subscribers

Just had my subscription renewed with NHL.tv and forgot about our 'Netflix Tax'.
If you have your billing address/IP on sign up in Australia expect to pay an extra $12USD.

As its too late for me, hoping to warn someone else about putting their location as another 'tax free' country to avoid it.
Apparently you only need a different IP for sign up. France, India and Romania work.

Or wait a few weeks for the bargains to roll out. Unfortunately I'm NHL starved and couldn't wait.

  • Thanks for the info OP. I'm annoyed that I specifically cancelled my subscription last month and they automatically deducted from my PayPal today!

Im sure yours wouldn't be the only one. They were pretty quick in responding to my query though. Maybe try and raise it with them?

    • I had a refund come through this morning. Hopefully you got yours too!

      • Thanks mate. Yeah me too. Cancel within 5 days and they refund you. Good policy, but should never have taken my money in the first place.
Anyway, let's get this season started already!

    • Seems a bit suss. Seeing as you posted the same thing on past NBA and NFL deals and only joined yesterday. I'd rather wait for a legit sale like the Halloween one in a few weeks.

  • Thanks for the PSA and sorry about the tangent but can I ask if NHL.TV works yet? I had the service for 2 days last season and it was beyond woeful. In the 48 hours I had it, I couldn't manage more than a minute of live play without it downsampling to an unwatchable 144p, or stopping altogether. In the end I chose to refund it and told the customer service team (who were a pain to get hold of in the first place) that they actually should be ashamed of their service. Scuttlebutt from the USA seems to indicate that it's not much better this season, but you're in this country so I figured I'd ask.

TBH, I never streamed using the NHL app. The NHL.tv kodi addon uses your login and you can manually set your streamrate from there (either through windows or android). I always found the app's stream-rates were very inconsistent. Although ahem *cough *cough
