Gaming Monitors with The Current eBay Deal

Hey again OZB, I've decided to finally pull the trigger and move to a proper gaming monitor after my old one died and I moved to my (for work) stock 4k 28" led monitor.

I am after 27/28" QHD(2K), G-SYNC, IPS, 1-5ms and a 120hz minimum. Currently the best one I have found is This AOC Monitor.
@ $799 after the 20% PICNIC ebay code.

Is this the best I can hope for at 800 bucks? Am I cutting it too close with my budget and I really should wait to buy something more expensive? Anyone else know of something possibly outside the eBay deals? or Should I wait for clearance sales on? To clarify it's definitely at the top end of my budget.

Thanks very much for any help and your time (as per usual).
Sorry to demand so much time that this is the second suggestion thread I've made regarding electronics in 24hours!

Here's to hoping this also helps someone else decide as this seems to be a pretty hot topic atm.

I consider those specs to be the sweet spot for a gaming monitor and what I would consider for my next monitor purchase. However there are suprisingly few monitors on the market that meet those specs. Instead there are plenty of 24" monitors (too small), 27" 4K monitors (too many pixels for good performance) and 34" ultrawide (too expensive).

The only alternative that I can see in the eBay deal is this Acer which is slightly cheaper and might be a better monitor, I haven't checked the reviews. The seller is in NZ which might be a problem

    • Yeah I was in the same boat as you, only difference now is I want to pull the trigger and get one :P

Thanks for the suggestion but it lacks IPS and thats such a key to the perfect relationship of specs on a monitor ATM.

Disregard original text, this is a new question below due to the lack of conclusion/deals I found and the PICNIC deal is over by tomorrow

To avoid making a new thread I'll just go on the hopes people see the "New Comment(1)" tag and check.

Can anyone see something better than this "ViewSonic VA2719-2K 27" WQHD 5MS IPS LED Monitor" at the sub $300 mark?
Decided I'm gonna fill in my work/gaming needs for now and save up until I have ~$1100 put away for a rainy day when the perfect gaming monitor deal comes out!

Some comments in this thread https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2658943

Seems to overclock easily to 75-80hz, and generally positive reviews.

I'm of the same thought as you, I'd like a 144hz 1440p g-sync monitor, but for a third of the price I can get something like the viewsonic.

      • Gee, PLE retails it for $299, I didn't even know about the MSY deal. Thanks for that though, think I will get it for now!

  • Same line of question here, would very much appreciate some thoughts.

I've been looking at getting the Acer Predator 27" IPS G-Sync 144Hz (XB271HU) since picking up an Nvidia 1080ti. The cost (~$1000) has constantly brought me back from the brink of purchase.

What sort of tradeoff would I be looking at if I instead went with the 27" Viewsonic 75Hz (VA2719-2k) or the 32" (VX3209-2K) for $299 and $399 respectively?

I mostly game and expect to play Destiny2/Fallout games (Mostly non-competitive) as well as streaming netflix.

I think what I'm asking is:

    1. Is an extra $600-700 worth it to go from 75hz to 144hz refresh and gain G-Sync?
    2. Are the Viewsonic monitors good value for an IPS/75Hz?
    3. Will I get a better experience with the 27" or the 32"?

    Greatly appreciate the feedback!

  • Oops, accidentally replied to the thread not your post.
To answer the first parts of your post mainly; Yes. Its worth it, see it as an investment. Your 1080Ti is like buying a v12 engine and then trying to put it in a toyota prius.
I strongly agree with that and if you post elsewhere, you'll find the majority does aswell - You'll also find that once people go g-sync, they never can go back. The same is for IPS.

To the latter parts, 75hz mayswell be 60hz for performance/gaming sakes, there's no real bonus to those extra 15hz, the only logical move from 60/75hz is 120hz/144hz.
For the size of the monitor, it strongly depends how far from the monitor you sit and what resolution you'll be using it at.
For the sakes of not knowing at the moment, You'll definitely want 2K(QHD) ability with a 27" No matter where you sit. (somewhat future-proofing too)

Hope that answered most, feel free to ask more, also just a quick addition regarding my investment comment, I only recently sold my BenQ 24" 120hz, I brought it about 6-7 years ago when the first 120hz 1ms BenQ's came out and everyone thought I was crazy to spend 500$ on a monitor only to have them upgrading to the exact same thing for not much cheaper a few years later. Hell, I sold it for $240, basically half what I paid, one of my best purchases to date regarding gaming/computers.
