Would you fly Scoot??

Hi
Looking at travelling with the family in January ( 2 adults and 4 kids). Given if it's school holidays it's going to cost a fortune to head over to Thailand. Have seen some cheap flights with Scoot and wondering if they are any good or not. Are they safe? Good value?

Don't know anyone who has flown with them so, would like to hear from fellow Ozbargainers.

Cheers Dan 😀

They're owned by Singapore Airlines. I've found them to be worth the money, just remember they're a budget airline so you're paying less but getting less. The value depends on yourself and if you're happy to accept less for less money.

    so unsafe, not good value

yeah, they have had 10 crashes today. /S

They are a good budget airlines and their planes are all very new. Boeing 787's

Agree - I thought they were fine for SYD-SIN. Food as everyone has said wasn't great, but for the price, take a few snacks if you're so worried. I had chicken and rice and it wasn't that bad. It just looked pretty sad in a little container with foil over the top.

Would fly with them again without hesitation if I needed

  • I have flown Scoot with 2 adults and 4 kids.
It was OK for a budget airline. Planes are pretty new.
    Food was pretty poor.
Check the flight times, the flight from SG back to Sydney was at 1am which was a bit of a pain with smaller kids.
Would fly them again if they had the best price.
I prefer AirAsia slightly, as they usually have better connections and their food is better. But somebody will be along to say they would never fly with them because they have had a couple of accidents.

They are quite attentive to kids too, and have asked mine to be temporary flight attendants / crew and deliver food to people for some fun.

Apart from their timing of their flights, I find them a decent airline as long as you go in with the expectation that they are a budget airline. Complaining that you don't get free rum is not on.

They are ok. Seats are harder on my ass than AA. The 2pm flight from Sydney to Singapore was always good. Took the last AA flight to Bangkok and Paaar-Tay!!

Food is disgusting and way over priced. Stop by your favourite HK BBQ to stock up.

      Spot on !!!

  • Flew with them Goast Coast to Singapore return a couple of years ago, had no complaints. Plane over was only half full and flight back they gave me a quiet zone seat which was nice. I don't recall the food being too terrible, bring along a few of your own snacks as well and you'll be fine.

  • Flew with them to Bangkok and bangkok separate times. Always had the big plane with lots of leg room. So research which plane you'll end up boarding. Food is super expensive though, so just eat up before you board!

  • I've flown the Gold Coast to Singapore (return) route every year, and occasionally, twice a year, since they started flying out of the Gold Coast.

I have realistic expectations and always BYO my own snacks (so I don't have to pay for overpriced airline food), and so far, I'm been quie happy with them.

  • I would echo mskeggs (except for airasia as I've not yet flown them) and tusker here. Fine for the money (luggage prices are creeping up a bit though) so long as you prepare as you would any budget airline for med-long haul (pack food/entertainment, know your transfer times and terminals etc) then you'll have a good flight.

As mentioned though, the early AM departure from SEA to most Australian cities is a killer in economy, especially with little kids. If you can avoid it, do.

  • if you're concerned about affordability it shouldn't matter you just go with cheapest prices you can find.

  • If your in Melbourne look at Royal Brunei airlines. Sometimes have cheap prices but are full service ice airline with frills. About same as Jetstar by time you add up extra costs for baggage, food and seat connection. As no alcohol provided some prefer to go with other airlines.
Try and avoid coming home at end of hols because all flights will be crowded. Tuesdays and Wed essays are usually cheaper or less crowded. Be aware that Royal Brunei often have stop over in a hotel in their capital. Includes transfers and accommodation. Have no direct flights but stop in BSB is 55 mins on way over and about 2 hrs on way back to Melbourne. They often arrive Melbourne slightly early so you get through customs and luggage before the other early morning arrivals.quickest flights from Melbourne at least on Wednesdays and Saturdays and quickest trip back to Melbourne leave BKK about 1 pm on Mondays and Tuesdays. There may be other suitable flights. Service is great and often have lots of space.

  • As above legroom was fine actually, food wasn't great. We brought a salad onboard and got told off by the attendants - no outside food policy.

    • Next time try bringing something that doesn't need to be eaten with utensils and they'll leave you alone.

  • I recently flew them 5 weeks ago from Gold coast to Singapore and found to be pretty good. Staff are young and very proactive. Bring so snacks with you. No complaints.

  • Recently went Scootbiz from Singapore to Melbourne, besides the fact its not a full on business class, I found it to be well run, very safe, clean and well organised. Definitely would fly with them again but probably only business class as I liked the space.

  • About the same quality as Jetstar really. Qantas owns Jetstar, Singapore Airlines owns Scoot and they both go after the same market segment. The only thing I have heard is they're harder to deal with if they cancel/re-schedule your flight. Where Jetstar will put you up in a hotel or re-route you(with a lot of pain) nothing is really guaranteed with Scoot.

You can fly scoot Singapore to Athens pretty cheaply.

    Eg. $607 return 9/1/18, 16/1/18

  • I've flown scoot both in business and economy. Luggage and food included in business. But limited to one beverage, if I recall correctly.

Economy the food and drinks are very expensive. I was flying economy back from Singapore where the food is cheap, yummy and abundant. The prices for their offerings was a shock. New plane, got D service. Didn't book a seat and got extra keg room.

I really like air asia food. Don't like connecting in KL, but the food is better imo, than economy food on full service airlines. Cathy, Qantas, Thai, Bangkok, Singapore , and virgin.

  • Yes, but only with the "business" class upgrade.

Flew them for a short sector of Tokyo->Taipei earlier this year and had no complaints at all.
