3D Printer Filament Recommendation and general tips

Hi guys,

Just bought my first 3D printer the anet a8, I've also bought a few suggested upgrade parts like the MOSFET and auto leveling sensor.

Now there's way too many options for filaments on ebay, can I please get some recommended suppliers? I'll be sticking with pla for a while.

The other thing I wanted to know is where can one get 3mm glass cut to the a8 bed size in Brisbane?

Any other suggestions welcome.

  • I get the 3d fillies PLA filament. Works a treat. Easy setup, very consistent in quality and doesn't cost a fortune. I paid $28 for a 1.75mm 1kg roll delivered. Cheaper if you buy 2. Also wait for eBay sales, then you can really get them cheap! For the glass plate, i hear people just go to kmart and buy the picture frames and use the glass off that, but it is prone to cracking because of the heated bed. Good luck with the build!

  • Thanks I'll order a could of rolls to see how it goes. Cheers thanks for the suggestion.

  • X3d filaments. Pretty decent. Again wait for sale before you spend.

I recommend Anycubic Ultrabase instead of glassbed. Love it

    • This looks good. Where did you get yours?

      • +1

Aliexpress or eBay store. Look under Anycubic

  • Sorry to highjack the thread but can a CR-10 or other similar printers in the $500-1000 price range print 3mm ABS with modifications to the nozzle and with an enclosure?

Can anybody link me to a guide if so?

  • About the glass, forget about buying a custom cut one, just go to a dollar store and buy a frame. Remove glass from frame and clip with low profile clips. Works like a charm

BTW glass bed is so worth it, aside from increasing temp to make it stick, the finish is amazing.

  • Are you guys talking about the 10-20% eBay sale?

I want a perm glass bed after seeing the reviews and recommended upgrades. I may just hitup a local glazier.

  • Has anyone here used octoprint with their printer? Which pi are you using?

    • I use a raspberry Pi 3 which works well, but I've read you can run octoprint on the older ones. Not sure what the minimum requirement is.

  • Mansunz I can't seem to find X3d on eBay, can you post a link I want to get on the 18% off deal.

Has anyone use eSun filament? If so are these decent filament?

    • Hi,

They don't are available on ebay. They have their own online store.

  • Oh cheers. Got a few esuns during the 18% I think it'll last me for ages
