Expert Opinions/Experiences - What Is The Likelihood of Fake LG Phone from Grey Retailer?

Hi guys, new here and I joined to try and get some expert opinions/advice on a recent purchase I made through Shoppingsquare/Apus. I will also be posting, of course - any worthy bargains I come across :)

I've purchased from them before, although my recent purchase of an LG G6 through their eBay site (20% off) is the first time I am buying a grey import phone.

I am just curious (spurned on from reading online horror stories), is it likely that Shoppingsquare/Apus sell fake phones? Specifically, LG G6?

Now I've read about people purchasing fake SD cards from them, but I wonder - what about phones? I've also looked at a bunch of unboxing videos of the unit and a lot of them are boxed differently (I.e. stickers, branding, some have earphones, some don't, packaging) so it can be challenging to have a point of reference.

Any thoughts? Tips on what to look out for when I get the item? What should I expect?

Anyone experienced purchasing grey import phones from them? What was your experience like? What country are grey imports generally for?

Happy to just to hear your thoughts and advice.

Thanks in advance.

If I failed to perform a forum rule of any kind, please advice and I will resolve.

Shoppingsquare/Apus —> good people, i think apus has a store in sydney so i dont believe they will ever sell fake phones.

most complain is slow to receive

never heard about fake LG, fake iphone and samsung yes possible.

dont worry when you receive a fake you will notice straight away, from box and the handset, the camera, the functions, the screen.

      and the iPhone branding

      • Its reliable. This store is great. But shipping slow/from Hong Kong. Warranty is the main thing as the seller handles any warranty issues.

        • Hey Levity - thanks for that, yes I've purchased a few things off of them successfully in the past and I agree about warranty issues.

Have you personally have had to lodge a warranty claim through them?

Based on scrolling through forum posts, seems that the main issue people are having is sending the faulty unit back and having to wait ridiculous timeframes for either a response or the actual refund. Scary stuff, I mean yes, it is a bargain but it is still a few hundred bucks that us average joes could do with.

          Thanks Levity.

      • Hey atomic - thanks for the response.

Yes, I am hoping that I can tell straight away if ever, though I must admit I am no tech guru and that by looking at the settings and what have you, if the fake lied about the memory, android version, etc. I probably will have a hard time proving it!

Don't worry its real they have 98.3% positive feedback. They are powerseller. Worst case is the order can't be fulfilled in which case it will be canceled after 1 week.

    • Thanks you guys, for the prompt response, and helpful at that!

I've bought with them before, like I said, and seem to be ordinary as far as my purchases go and agreed that they do take longer than normal.

I'd rather have that issue (long wait) than receive a fake phone as my concern is to do with safety of the battery blowing up or just having cheap Chinese fake products that are generally dangerous.

I also bought a Xiaomi power bank 2 from them, that shipped quickly and said it was coming from Australia. I was also concerned about a fake one of that but was not too concerned when mentioned it was Aus stock.

I will keep you posted, dragonindespair, in general anyway - so that people on the same boat as me can see the thread and be informed.
