Myki 2 Hour Fare

Does anyone know if you have to complete the journey within 2 hours or just start the final part of your journey within 2 hours? For example, if you touched on at 12:00, then touched on for the return journey at 1:55 and touched off at 2:25, would you get charged a 2 hour or daily fare?

Edit: Tried it. Was charged a 2 hour fare for a journey last touched on before 2 hours and touched off after 2 hours.

You need to complete your journey in the 2 hours so you'd be charged for the daily fare in your example. However if your first touch on is after 6pm then you will only be charged a 2 hour fare as long as you touch off before 3am.

  • Its from the first touch on, to last touch off.

You could skip the final touch off I gess, and I think you'll only get charged 2 hrs. But not 100% sure on this one.

Its no different to the paper tickets, you had to had a value 'ticket' ie start/finish within the 2hrs.

Tbh not sure if that's the case, if you don't touch off I thought they stung you with the max rate

      • yeah they do a max rate if you don't touch off, just read the link below…. As I said, I wasn't 100% sure. So was wrong.

        • You're not really wrong. The only way to get a fare cheaper than the "max fare" is if you only travel in the same section of zone 2. If any part of your trip is in Zone 1 you only need to touch off if there's a barrier.

      • The max fare is a two hour unless you've already touched on or off after the initial two hour period.

  • Good question.. If it was a train then I'm assuming that in your above example you would be charged for 2 hours.

On a tram however you're not supposed to touch off… So your above example would cost you a 2 hour ticket…

    • I tried it with a train and was charged for 2 hours.

      • Well there you go! Good to know.

  • Two-hour fares on myki have been adjusted to last for exactly two hours.

The two-hour fare is still valid for multiple trips as long as you touch on before the expiry time.
The daily cap has not changed. Passengers can continue to enjoy unlimited daily travel for a capped price based on the zones they have used.
