Travelling to New Zealand - Need Best Data Deal - Does This Hack Work ?

Hi all. Heading to NZ with the family for about 3 weeks in October and have been looking around for the best data (DON'T NEED CALLS OR TEXT) deal I can find to suit us all. I may have to do a few hours work while I am there and the kids/wife will want to stay connected to friends at down/night-time in OZ.

Anyway, I have sussed out a few of the options to get a sim-card when we land (did this last time in CC airport), but the cost seems to have increased and the data gone down BUT I have noticed the Vodafone Australia have 12 month SIM only plans, with unlimited data in the first month, 30 day guarantee so you can cancel within 30 days, and free roaming in NZ until Jan 2018 - using all of your plans inclusions - http://www.vodafone.com.au/plans/international-roaming/new-z…

So my question is - has anyone done this and is it as simple as it sounds - i.e. take out a $30pm plan on the 1st October - use unlimited data in NZ for free in the month of October - then come back to OZ and cancel plan on the 29th Oct. Only pay $30 for unlimited data in NZ !

OR worst case scenario that they don't let me use the unlimited data roaming, so I would take up the $80 - 32GB plan.

    No. All data usage while roaming is excluded and will be charged as per normal, including if you’re on $5 Roaming.

    I would guess not. the NZ offer is still roaming, just they are waiving the $5 fee till 2018.
    Give it a go, and let me know as I am going over in nov.

    Otherwise, Vodafone NZ prepay, take advantage of the Friday deals such as 500MB for $5 (you'll need to manually add these packs)

    I'm moving to NZ at the beginning of November so have explored this

    While there shouldnt be anything stopping you using the free roaming, you are not entitled to the 1st month unlimited data while roaming

    You can however use data up to the data normally available on this plan

    Cheers all. I have just been on the Live Chat with one of them.

    YES - I can join the $80 plan with 32 GB (Sales are going to call me shortly and see if they can offer more data) and use that 32 GB in NZ at no extra cost.
    NO - I wont get the unlimited first month free data while roaming, but will obviously for the time I am in OZ during that month.
    YES - I can then cancel the plan when I get back home before the expiration of the 30 Day Guarantee - I told them that I left VF years ago because the reception in my house was terrible. They couldn't confirm if it would be better now.

    I suppose the thing for me is that if the reception out and about has improved in OZ, and they offer me say 50 GB I might stay with them. Otherwise I will cancel and have lost nothing really as I would be paying a lot more for that sort of Data while in NZ.

    I basically told her what i was planning to do and she said YES (except the unlimited data roaming).
