Do NOT order lamb on the Domino's website!

I saw that Dominos had put their slow cooked lamb back on their website and replaced two toppings on my pizza with it, but the store gave me a pizza minus two toppings and no lamb. The lamb was not listed on my receipt and they didn't seem to believe me when I told them I had replaced two toppings online with the lamb. They also insisted that they did not have lamb at the store. I'm now stuck with a pizza minus two toppings.

Someone at HQ must have screwed up the website and put the lamb back on by mistake. Do not order it, the store won't have it and you will just get a pizza with less toppings than normal.

Edit : I went back to the store after ordering another traditional pizza, showed them the screenshots that I took proving that I had ordered lamb and explained that I got a pizza missing two toppings. They just kept blaming the head office and saying "It's not on the receipt buddy". Eventually they agreed to give me an extra value pizza for free if i came back the next day but refused to use the store credit to take $5.95 off my traditional pizza. They kept saying they couldn't do it, but refused to say why and kept evading the question.

If their system or whatever didn't allow them to do it, OK, fine, but the way they kept dodging the question was annoying. Now i have to do an extra 1 hour round trip to the store tommorrow just to get compensated when they could have done it when I was there.

I don't know if they changed managers or something, they used to have this young guy who was really energetic and helpful, now they have someone like this.

As i said, they didnt seem to believe me when i told them i had replaced two toppings online with the lamb and just kept saying it wasnt on my receipt (which it wasnt).

Obviously im going to try and sort it out with dominos customer service tommorrow but i just wanted to warn people not to add the lamb topping to their pizzas for now.

      • How about showing them your receipt or order from ur email?

        • They gave me the receipt at the store, which didnt have the lamb on it. The store didnt believe me when i told them i ordered lamb on the website and said they didnt even sell lamb.

I tried to report to Dominos customer service about problems with the food quality from a local franchise, even offering the send them photos of the product. I didn't want a refund just wanted to show them. They weren't interested and just told me to go back/call the store I bought it from.

      • One thing to say: "I'm not happy with how you have made my pizza, please replace it"

So think of it as a free trial and be happy.

        • Did not work, they just kept saying they could not do it.

      • I'd definitely ask to speak to the manager. Last time they forgot my prawns they offered store credit for future use.

        • Most of these puns are flocking terrible.

  • Sure you're not just spinning a yarn?

  • You can't be surprised surely? This is fast food - it is all about profit. If you want people to get your order right stop ordering cheap junk food. The system is probably designed as cheaply as possible and the orders are made by 14 year olds.

You couldn't be further from the truth. Domino's essentially consider themselves a software company more than a pizza company now. The analytics and operational capabilities of their systems are industry leading. Domino's devs and product people will often speak at conferences.

Their pizzas are terrible but their systems are awesome.

The lamb was not listed on my receipt

What about your emailed receipt? Was it listed, had you been charged for it?

Maybe you just didn't order it?

    • It was on the order confirmation page and i have a screenshot of it.

The fact that the store said that they dont even sell lamb is a pretty good indicator that the website was wrong.

      • Did you get charged for lamb though?

        • Free topping exchange, so no. But the pizza had two less toppings than normal.

Do NOT order lamb on the Domino's website!

  • Domino's often do A/B Testing via their sites and apps which may actually lead you to options which don't exist in the stores solely to see if you pick them and they're worth actually implementing. They test products and combos that don't exist purely to see if they should exist. Low cost, low investment and it allows them to learn or fail fast.

Obviously you're not actually meant to be able to complete your order with these items, but I'd say that's what happened.

For over half a decade now Domino's has been run like a software company. They regularly test products and options on their customers and collect advanced analytics which help them predict behaviours and options that will be popular.

Here's a quick write up from a while back:

    https://www.fastcompany.com/3030869/how-dominos-became-a-tec…

I've seen various talks from Domino's tech and product people and the way they run their data systems is truly awesome. They're certainly not popular because of their pizzas. They have systems in place to ensure they can cut a profit in one of the most competitive markets in the world.

I'd bet my bottom dollar you were caught in a dodgy test group and a glitch enabled you to complete your order - the actual store wouldn't have received those items on the order they saw.

In short, Domino's have crap pizzas and treat their customers as guinea pigs, but as a software company they're really cutting edge and at the top of their game.

    Sucks about the lamb!
