Home Speakers for Songs or Music Listening (Not movie theater)

Looking to see if any bargains can be had from the upcoming ebay 18% sitewide for home speakers for songs/music listening purpose.

Songs/music = Preferably 2.1 setup ? Not those sound bars, i suppose.

What's the recommended speakers for my usage ?
The only speaker deal i saw here is KEF (other than sounds bars & logitech & mini bookshelf)

Budget 1k. But open to higher or lower threshold limit as long as it's deal of century / ultimate super duper bargain for money bang bus.

Thanks.

  • Proper speakers with a proper amplifier.
2.1 speakers are for TV/Movies not for Music.

What source is the music going to be coming from?

A nice set of Bookshelf speakers and a simple amp will put you into the $1000 (new) territory.
You might get lucky and score yourself some floor standers on a super deal.
Your best deals are going to be clearance stuff or secondhand stuff where you'll find a decent setup for probably $500.

    • the source won't be quality stuff like flac.
      mostly youtube … hahaha!

i only want something that sounds like my cheapo headphones Koss KSC-75.

i know speakers are hard to replicate the sound quality from headphones but given that Koss is nothing high end, i suppose my expectation is reasonable ?

  • It would depend on your current amplifier and what sort of sound you like eg. Relaxed layed back, Very forward, Detailed, Balanced.

I'm not sure if this discount applies to gear bought from America, but if it does these would be good:

  • Before you buy anything, listen to Hotel California - Eagles in 5.1 dts (don't need to be a Eagles fan). Then you know, how good is 5.1 for music, not just movies.
Then again 2.1 is good for music, that .1 will gives you a extra depth of bass.

  • +2

We've been using the Sonos… very good for music! We do have the play 5, but if its small rooms you could probably get awway with the play 3.

  • I have a Yamaha amp (from Harvey Norman, there are often specials for like $400) and a pair of QAcoustics speakers (around $400).

I have a centre speaker (Jamo C250 literally $2 from my local opshop!) and subwoofer too (Klipsch SW400 for $150 off ebay) but you don't really need them for music
